A new indoor pickleball venue is set to open in Adelaide’s north-east, with Pickletown promising four courts, social leagues and a strong focus on community.

A new indoor pickleball venue is set to open later this year, bringing one of the world’s fastest growing sports to Adelaide’s north east and giving the city its first dedicated indoor pickleball venue.

Pickleball is a sport combining elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. Its smaller court size and slower pace makes it easier to pick up and more social and accessible to players of all ages and abilities.

The sport has experienced rapid growth across Australia in recent years, with over 530 registered pickleball venues opening since the sport gained traction.

Multiple dedicated indoor centres, such as House of Pickle and Pikl, have already opened in capital cities like Melbourne and Sydney.

And now, Adelaide will have its own dedicated indoor pickleball venue, featuring four indoor courts, self-service court bookings, social sessions, leagues and community events.

The space creates what co-founder Trevor Gibbs describes as a “new kind of social movement destination” for Adelaide.

“This isn’t just about pickleball,” he told Glam.

“It’s one of the fastest growing sports in the world, but in addition to that, it’s a sport for everyone,” Trevor said.

“You could be a child, or you could be elderly, you could have an injury, you could be neurodiverse – it’s a sport for everyone”.

Inclusivity is at the heart of the Pickletown concept. Alongside regular social play and competitions, the venue also plans to offer dedicated sensory sessions, where lighting and music levels will be reduced.

As a local to the area, Trevor said the decision to open in the area was inspired by the strong community interest in the sport.

“We know the passion for sport in the community, and there’s also no dedicated indoor pickleball destination servicing the area at all,” he said.

And with more than 200 people already joined to the venue’s founding waitlist ahead of its opening, that demand is evident.

Early supporters will receive priority access to memberships, early booking opportunities, and invitations to launch events.
