Escape underground in this dugout desert home in Coober Pedy

Getaway: escape to the desert in this stylish underground Coober Pedy dugout, complete with two bedrooms and full kitchen and deck.

Coober Pedy is an iconic town in the state’s north, and now you can stay not only in it––but under it.

There’s something that seems incredibly fun about staying underground, and we’ve found an incredible underground cave that looks brilliant.

The underground home set in the desert town of Coober Pedy has been recently renovated and features two large bedrooms.

The open plan home is welcoming, cool, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped with all you will need to cook up a storm or simply just have a cup of tea or coffee or glass of wine after a long day on the road. There are two bedrooms – the larger room (which was the original dugout) has a queen bed and the other is nestled further into the space with a double bed. The living room is quiet and cool all year round. The bathroom is calm and fresh and there is also a shaded carport.

For claustrophobes, this property also comes with an above ground entryway and scenic deck that has a stunning outlook over the red dunes. It is also the perfect place to watch the sunset and stargaze in the evenings.

Free WiFi is available as well as a pocket wireless dongle to boost the strength of the connection.

The dugout reaches approximately 24 degrees celsius on a 45-degree day, making it a great place to beat the desert heat.

Upon arrival guests will be met by their hosts who will show them around the property and share the local’s secrets to the best eats and activities around town.

Located just 5 minutes by foot from the town centre, this stay is ideal for anyone looking to be in the heart of the action whilst secluded and private.
