Located at 12 Logan Street, Pratt Shop has launched as Adelaideās newest Vintage + Matcha Marketplace, bringing together curated second-hand fashion, high-quality matcha and a retail experience. After months of pop-ups, kilo sales and social media teasers, the space officially opened this weekend as a permanent five-day-a-week trade location.
At first glance, the concept taps into two familiar trends: vintage clothing and matcha cafĆ©s. But Pratt Shop is attempting to combine them into a single destination, creating a retail experience and reaching into the growing āmatcha cultureā, which has carved out its own space as an alternative to traditional coffee culture.
The fit-out leans into its setting, reflecting the character of the surrounding streets. Described as “industrial, creative and welcoming”, it is laden with chrome finishes, stacked crates and open floor space, as well as a small āmatcha barā serving Adelaide favourite Solace & Heart. Already well known within Adelaideās growing cafĆ© scene, Solace and Heart serve ceremonial-grade matcha imported directly from Uji, Japan, prepared fresh for every order.
āWe kept seeing people online say they hated matcha, but after doing a bit of digging, we realised most people had never actually tried good matcha,ā explains Andrew of Solace & Heart.
Alongside classic drinks, the menu leans into experimental flavours including banana bread matcha, earl grey, and strawberry variations, with all syrups and cold foams made in-house.
But what to order for newcomers, you ask?
āThe Banana Bread Matcha is definitely a crowd favourite and has developed a bit of a cult following. That said, if itās your first time trying matcha, nothing beats a classic iced matcha. Itās the best way to experience what great matcha should taste like.ā
Behind the space is Handmedown Heat, a vintage collective that has built a strong online following of more than 25,000 Instagram users through pop-ups and kilo sales. While theyāve operated from the same warehouse previously, Pratt Shop marks a shift from temporary trading and online drops to a permanent, physical location, giving them the opportunity to translate that digital following into community.
