After months of successful pop-ups, five Adelaide sisters are opening the doors to a much bigger home, bringing coffee, sandos and car culture under one roof.
2GTHER Cafe officially opens to Adelaidians this Saturday, with free cold brews and oat lattes, plus plenty of cars on display, including a BMW E28 taking pride of place inside the venue beneath RGB lights.
Beyond the car, the Franklin Street cafe has been designed with different ways to settle in. A grab-and-go area sits at the front, while further inside is a relaxed lounge zone with space to catch up with friends, study or hold a meeting.
The idea is for 2GTHER to be more than somewhere to simply grab a coffee, creating a space where people can slow down over specialty coffee and food or spend a little longer.
Behind the venture are five sisters, Jackie, Sandra, Vicke, Sonya and Alita, who first began taking 2GTHER to cars and coffee events across Adelaide and Melbourne.
Each brings different skills and experience to the business, with Vicke working as a structural building information modeller and architectural designer, Sandra as a registered nurse and professional photographer and videographer, Jackie as a business accountant and bookkeeper, and Sonya as an occupational therapist.
Together with Alita, the sisters work across the cafe, bringing something they they say is entirely unique to Adelaide.
“It all started with our passion for food, creativity and the community,” they said.
“With five sisters, as you can imagine, there’s some ups and downs, but we do work together.
“Sometimes we have different ideas, but we do come together and work things out.”
That spirit of coming together inspired the name, reflecting both the sisters behind the business and the community they hope to create.
For coffee, the sisters have chosen Melbourne-based specialty roaster Clark St. Coffee, which has more than a decade of experience in the industry.
“They use specialty-grade, 100 percent Arabica beans to make sure it’s got exceptional flavour, aroma and balance.”
“The biggest thing that stood out to (us) was that they’re constantly engaging in the latest roasting and brewing technology.”
Alongside the coffee will be a range of creative cold drinks, including the Tiramisu Cloud Iced Latte, Caramel Cloud Iced Latte and Matcha Cloud.
“Each drink has its own twist, but one of the things our customers love most is our signature cloud topping.”
Matcha lovers will have two options, including a more approachable and balanced flavour for those newer to matcha, and another with a “deeper, stronger matcha profile for the serious matcha drinkers”.
“We’re always experimenting with new flavours and ideas, from our take on the “viral” Dubai Iced Latte to our refreshing Lychee Glow.
“We love creating drinks that are not only delicious, but also give people something a little different to discover.”
That same sense of experimentation carries through to the food menu, with the sisters drawing inspiration from different cuisines as well as their own upbringing.
“All this inspiration has come from when we travelled around Melbourne and Sydney, tried different types of foods and came up with ideas, and also just our experience with food growing up with my mum always cooking at home.”
The daytime menu will focus on sandos, grab-and-go options, baked goods and specialty caffeine smoothies.
Behind the scenes, the sisters are also developing a late-night offering centred around desserts and treats, adding another layer to the concept as the cafe grows.
“Whatever we eat, we want the community to eat. Whatever we will have ourselves, we’ll give to the community.”
With the permanent space finally ready to open, the sisters say the focus remains on creating something that contributes to the community that has supported them along the way.
“Ultimately, our success is measured by the positive impact we create.”
