If you’ve ever wished you could bottle up the feeling of a Mediterranean holiday and bring it home with you, then you’re certainly not alone.

After several trips to the Mediterranean, Abbey Threadgold found herself inspired by its slower, more intentional way of life. Wanting to bring a little of that feeling back to Adelaide’s own coastline, she created Salterra Haus.

Located in Brighton Central, the thoughtfully curated lifestyle and wellness destination draws inspiration from the Mediterranean coast, bringing together fashion, homewares, beauty and wellness under one roof.

The name itself reflects that philosophy, combining the ideas of “salt” and “earth” to represent the connection between the coast and the land. But beyond the name, it’s clear Abbey has woven that inspiration into every detail. From the richly textured walls to the warmth of the timber finishes and earthy palette, the space feels distinctly Mediterranean.

But while the beautiful interiors are definitely a drawcard, Abbey’s exclusive collection of brands is another reason we’re excited. As the exclusive South Australian stockist of luxury athleisure label Ajani Array, alongside a signature fragrance and skincare range created by Adelaide Hills maker Anna Jayne Fragrances, Salterra Haus is committed to offering a thoughtfully curated and exclusive collection.

“Everything in our launch collection has been very intentionally curated,” Abbey says.

“Beautiful brands are important, but so are the people behind them. I like building genuine relationships with founders and suppliers and understanding their story, because they need to align with the Salterra Haus philosophy and values as well.”

Whether you’re searching for a thoughtful gift, a little something for yourself, or simply an excuse to browse, you’ll find brands including LEIF, Arms of Eve, Beysis, Bespoke Letterpress, Fridah Worldwide, Juan & Me, Pelli Bags, L’ritual, Black Salt Co and Coast to Coast Imports. Chances are, you won’t be leaving empty-handed.

Blending emerging makers with established Australian and international brands, Abbey hopes customers will discover labels they may never have come across before. And with plans to continue expanding the range, the collection is already evolving. Next month, she’ll head to Melbourne to source new makers and independent brands, ensuring there’s always something fresh waiting on the shelves.

When chatting with Abbey, we asked why Brighton felt like the right place to bring the Mediterranean way of life to Holdfast Bay.

Rather than opening in Adelaide’s CBD or another established retail precinct, she saw an opportunity to create something unique for the coast, inspired by the similarities between South Australia’s beachside lifestyle and the relaxed philosophy of the Mediterranean.

“There’s a really beautiful synergy between the coastal culture here and that Mediterranean way of life,” she says.

“Brighton has such a connected and supportive community, and I felt it was the perfect place to bring Salterra Haus to life.”

Whether it was finding a beautifully designed greeting card, premium activewear to try on in person, or a thoughtful gift, Abbey also found there were surprisingly few destinations in the area that brought everything together under one thoughtfully designed roof – so Abbey wanted to try and fill that gap in the market.

But Salterra Haus is hoping to be about much more than just retail. Alongside its carefully curated collection, the boutique plans to host wellness workshops, community experiences and collaborations with local practitioners, while visitors can already book signature treatments developed in partnership with Healing Hands Co.

“I wanted to create more than a retail destination and build a lifestyle brand that inspires people to embrace a slower, more intentional way of living.”

That wellness focus has also become one of the most rewarding parts of bringing Salterra Haus to life, with Abbey discovering a thriving community of local health and wellness gurus along the way.

“I’ve met so many incredibly talented people throughout this process, particularly in the wellness space,” she says.

“I’m really excited about how we can collaborate together and continue building those relationships as Salterra Haus grows.”

However, for Abbey, success won’t be measured by what people buy, but by how they feel when they leave.

“If someone walks through our doors and leaves feeling calmer, more inspired or more connected than when they arrived, I’ll feel satisfied.”

“That’s what Salterra Haus was created to do.”
