Yolk Cafe have finally introduced us to their moodier sister venue along Marion Road, on July 24 and although it’s got light tones, we’re loving the darker features.
The new cafe retains the bright, airy feel that regulars know from Yolk’s Walkerville home, but it’s darker frontage gives the second venue a distinct identity of its own.
Think arched heritage windows, an open kitchen, plenty of indoor seating and a moody bar that comes into its own as day turns to night.
Yolk founder, Zac Mucklow said he’s keen to replicate the same community vibes at the new venue.
“I feel like we have such a good team to do that,” Zac said.
“The staff and everyone involved make it feel like you can just sense the vibe when you’re in there.”
Several much-loved members of the Walkerville team will be making Brooklyn Park their new work home, helping bring the same energy and welcoming culture to the western suburbs.
The building was most recently home to microbrewery Yellow Matter, but its history stretches back much further.
Its heritage-listed frontage features large arched windows and an impressive front entrance, while the building has previously served as a train museum, council depot and the original West Torrens Council chamber.
“This half of the building plays into that history through the dining areas and the open kitchen,” Zac said.
“It is a little moodier and more old-school.
“The extension at the back, which was already here before us, ties into Walkerville through the light timbers, bright spaces and lots of windows.”
The result is a mix of heritage character and Yolk’s familiar contemporary style, with darker timber and vintage details balanced by light-filled spaces.
“We’re all working in tandem, and I don’t think you see that across many cafes, especially in Adelaide, where everyone is working behind the bar together.”
Expect Yolk’s signature drinks like the reese’s PB hot chocolate, sea salt maple cold brew, biscoff iced-latte and tiramisu iced mocha. Talk about an all star lineup.
From passion pop and berry blitz smoothies to cold pressed juices and iced teas, it’s almost too good to be true.
Brunch favourites, of course feature, runny eggs (or hard if that’s your go) with a yolk brisket benny, and a new yolk jammy eggs and avo offering ,with chilli honey and pickled onion to top if off.
With 120 indoor seats, the Brooklyn Park venue is similar in size to Walkerville, although a greater proportion of the new cafe’s seating is inside.
Functions are also on the cards once the team has settled into the new space.
With mood lighting transforming the venue after sunset and an open bar providing a natural gathering point, Zac said the cafe had already attracted interest as a potential function venue.
“It would be a really nice function venue, and we’re already getting quite a few requests.”
The western suburbs locals have just been given a golden gem, Yolk 2.0.
