If you’re into your motorsport and find yourself around the Riverland next month, there’s an event you won’t want to miss, the Murtho Mowdown.
Boasting all-day, high-adrenaline action, the state’s best lawn mower racers will be duking it out at the Woolshed Brewery to see who will lift the trophy and be crowned the title of fastest forester.
Make no mistake. These aren’t your average lawn mowers, and the racing is certainly a cut above the rest.
While we might have to wait until 2027 for the Moto GP to make its way to the streets of Adelaide, this is one race you won’t have to wait long for.
The July race meet, which is run by the South Australian Lawn Mower Racing Association, is the fourth round on the association’s calendar, which comes shortly after the All Australian Ride On Mower Racing Championships held in Queensland last month.
With dozens of drivers taking part in the race meeting, these modified lawn mowers – which have had their cutting decks removed – have been modified to reach speeds of up to 60 km/h.
Mix together the tight twists and turns with plenty of spills and thrills on the winding dirt track, and you’ve got yourself a day of lighthearted family fun for all ages.
It’s also one that won’t break the bank too, with an entry fee of a gold coin domination, meaning every future Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri or Kimi Antonelli can get in on the trackside action.
Local food trucks, as well as a coffee van and trackside bar, will be present on the day, keeping racegoers fuelled and ready to go.
The action begins from 10am on Saturday, July 11, at Woolshed Brewery, 65 Wilkinson Road, Murtho, with all proceeds going towards supporting local CFS volunteers.
