Three years after selling their much-loved Napoli Woodfired Pizzeria to focus on becoming parents, the couple behind the former Adelaide pizza spot are getting back into the swing of things.
Mauro and Georgia are preparing to open La Piccola Pizzeria on Cross Road in Glandore, bringing Mauro’s pizzas back to the public after keeping them for private catering events since stepping away from their former business.
“We sold Napoli Pizzeria when we were expecting the birth of our son, Aureliano, giving ourselves time and space to fully immerse in the experience and transition of parenthood,” they said.
Now that their son is getting older, the couple are ready to bring a new offering, just a little closer to home.
“Mauro is itching to get back into a place of his own.”
After spending around a month looking at ready-to-open venues, the couple stumbled across the 508 Cross Road site while walking around their own neighbourhood.
“We had an inspection and knew it was the place,” they said.
“We have always said there aren’t many options for take away food in Glandore, it just made perfect sense.”
The past few years have been busy for the couple, with Georgia spending two years raising their son full-time while Mauro continued working at various pizzerias and running their catering business.
Outside of work, Mauro has been making the most of time with his “mini-me”.
This time around, the goal is to create a business that works alongside family life rather than taking it over.
“Owning Napoli Woodfired Pizzeria was a memorable and transformative time for my professionality and adaptability,” Mauro said.
“I say this because we opened Napoli mere days before the full force of COVID-19 hit.
“I had to learn to adapt to the unpredictable changes happening around us, be it lock-down compliance or the rising prices, there was a lot to juggle and consider which was out of the ordinary.
“This knowledge and ability to look much further outside the box is something I continuously use whilst planning and setting up La Piccola Pizzeria.”
The menu will start with 12-inch classic Italian pizzas alongside some well-loved Aussie favourites, with more dishes planned as summer rolls around.
And although the full menu is being kept under wraps until closer to opening day, one thing is already clear, Mauro’s pizza is no longer going to be exclusive to private events.
“The fact that we are opening in our local neighbourhood will give us a chance to create a sense of community where people in Glandore and surrounding suburbs can feel free to come in and hang out.”
