Free Asian festival Eastern Eats is returning this Saturday with food trucks, live performances and hands-on workshops

Eastern Eats is returning to Windsor Gardens this August, celebrating the flavours, traditions and culture of Asia.

If you’re looking for something a little different to do on a Saturday night, Eastern Eats is back for its third year, bringing a celebration of Asian food, culture, music and community to Windsor Gardens.

Taking place on Saturday, August 22 from 4pm to 8:30pm, the free event will transform Beefacres Reserve and Community Hall into an evening of food, entertainment, hands-on cultural experiences and glowing lanterns.

Eastern Eats is a City of Port Adelaide Enfield event designed to celebrate the incredible diversity of Asian cultures represented throughout the local community.

There will be music from DJ Nelya, performances from San Ureshi – “Joy of the Trio”, traditional-inspired drumming from Matsuri Taiko, and a performance from shamisen musician Noriko Tadano.

Sri Lankan food truck Soza’s will be there, alongside Sookii La La, whose South Asian-inspired food draws on the owners’ Cambodian and Laotian heritage. Phathead Dumplings will also be serving up authentic dumplings, noodles and bubble tea.

Award-winning chef and Le Cordon Bleu lecturer Bhu Chung, who has cooked for the Dalai Lama and worked in some of Adelaide’s best-known kitchens, will also take to the stage for a live cooking demonstration.

Soza’s, Sookii La La and Phathead food trucks will bring the flavour.
Award-winning Chef Bhu will conduct a cooking demonstration.

For those wanting to discover something new, Eastern Eats will also offer a series of free Come and Try activities, including origami, mahjong, woodblock printing, henna and lantern making.

As darkness arrives, keep an eye out for the lantern display created by the local community.

The lanterns are part of a wider community art project, with young people from the City of Port Adelaide Enfield invited to take part in lantern-making workshops earlier in the year. The finished creations will be brought together as part of the Eastern Eats celebration.

With free entry, undercover activities, and fire pits to keep you warm, there’s little reason not to rug up and make a night of it.
