For most of us, it’s hard to remember a time without Adelaide’s iconic radio station Fresh 92.7, while for some, the community broadcasters helped shape their youth. This year, Fresh 92.7 is celebrating a milestone birthday, revelling in 25 years of providing a daily dose of disco beats and of course, plenty of laughs, and they want you to join in on the fun.
On Friday July 7, the Fresh team are throwing a party, like only they know how, with all your favourite hosts, DJs, producers, news readers and volunteers, including some from way back when that helped shape the Fresh we know and love today.
Held at Electra House, you can be assured the music will be pumping with all your favourite Fresh DJs hitting the decks including Andrew Howlett, Angel, Bill Fragos, Bright Eyed, Contagious, Ezee G, Gex, Gootz, Jaki J, Josh, Lezen, Lisa D, Oh Q, Paul Marsham and Uttersounds.
More than just a radio station, Fresh 92.7 is a complete community and an iconic part of Adelaide’s rich culture. Its first-class volunteer program has been helping young South Australians grow and foster their skills in the media industry, an industry that is notoriously fickle and difficult to break into, and its impressive list of alumni, including Nova’s Ben and Liam, is a testament to its success.
Host of the daily Drive show, Cale Porter, has seen the positive effects of the station first hand having been a part of the community for over a decade.
“Having been a volunteer at Fresh since I was 14, I have witnessed enormous growth, success and passion for both the station itself and those within the four walls,” he says.
“Everyone knows someone with a strong connection to Fresh, whether it’s a past presenter or DJ, a business who advertises, someone who’s won a prize or simply a passionate listener.
“This birthday celebration is a chance to say thank you for providing Adelaide with the best beats in town and for launching so many careers and providing media opportunities to so many!”
Fresh has come a long way since its humble beginnings and is constantly evolving to not only keep up with the ever-changing industry but to also introduce more ways to involve the community whether it be through volunteers or community partnerships with South Australian businesses.
And that’s what this milestone celebration is all about. Yes, to the music. Yes, to the laughs. But also to the incredible contribution this station makes to the tight-knit community Adelaide is so lucky to have.
