Glam Adelaide Exclusive: Lorna Jane Clarkson Interview

Lorna Jane Clarkson, founder of the Lorna Jane clothing range reveals her tips to stay in shape over the festive season.

Christmas, New Years, and 2013 are all fast approaching, which means it is time to get organised!

For the health conscious Christmas and New Years can bring a sense of anxiety with all the food and drinks being thrust in your face.

This year the anxiety can take the back seat as Lorna Jane Clarkson, founder of the Lorna Jane clothing range reveals her tips to stay in shape over the festive season.

“My advice if you’re attending a Christmas party is making sure you don't go there hungry. Have a healthy snack before you leave home so you aren’t tempted to hover around the canapés all night!

“Another thing I always do is make sure I get some exercise in on Christmas Day and enjoy a mid-afternoon walk with my family to work off our festive lunch; so this year grab the kids, play some backyard cricket, go for a walk or hop on your bikes and check out the local Christmas decorations,” Lorna said.

To help put these tips into perspective Lorna has also created a diary for 2013 to help keep you motivated and stay focussed even after the chaos of Christmas and New Years has passed.

Lorna said that the diary was linked with the Move, Nourish, Believe book, which was released late last year.

“The Move, Nourish, Believe book was the first instalment, revealing how I personally live my life, move my body, eat right and stay motivated every single day.

“The diary is the next chapter; taking it one step further to provide women with a daily guide on how they too can embrace the Move, Nourish, Believe philosophy, and make 2013 their best year yet,” Lorna said.

Lorna said having the diary is like “having a daily chat with your girlfriend”; throughout the diary there are motivational tips, recipes, exercise tips/challenges, fitness facts and inspiring quotes.

“There’s even a six month check-up to ensure your New Year’s resolutions are on track; it is the ultimate fit woman’s handbook to leading a life of purpose, filled with vitality and the motivation to make it happen, every day!” Lorna said.

With all of these features Lorna said, “The diary is the perfect tool to help them realise their dreams and begin their journey toward being the very best version of themselves”, in conjunction with the Move, Nourish, Believe philosophy.

Lorna said that “Move, Nourish, Believe is a way of life that is simple to incorporate into your daily routine and by following this philosophy, you really can be the very best version of yourself… it isn’t about dieting or "crazy workouts".

“It’s about investing in yourself by making time to be active, eating the right foods, and having a positive outlook on life,” Lorna said.

Lorna revealed how she keeps herself active and motivated on a daily basis, with little tips and tricks to make life easier.

“I always lay out my active wear the night before so I can quickly slip on my outfit in the morning and go; it takes away that temptation to hit the snooze button because I have already committed myself the night before.

“[Or] if I am going to a weights session or yoga class after work, I team my tights with a blouse and heels so I can simply change my top and shoes and I am ready to workout; I find by being prepared, you don’t have an opportunity to talk yourself out of being active!” Lorna said.

So her advice to women is “if you can dream it, you can do it! Remember that you alone have the ability to be who you want to be and live the life that you truly imagine; you just have to start now!”

And for one last piece of advice over the festive season “just remember, enjoying the festive season and cherishing the time spent with the ones you love doesn't have to go hand in hand with over eating, not exercising or make bad food choices,” Lorna said.
