We’ve found an interactive map of where to get the best local oysters

The South Australian Oyster Growers Association has compiled a list of the best farms and oyster tourism experiences throughout the state.

South Aussies are spoilt with some of the best oysters in the world, and lucky for us, it’s almost oyster season.

“Oyster season is imminent,” says Lynlee Lowe, the executive officer of The South Australian Oyster Growers Association (SAOGA).

“We’re almost in that good stage, but there are plenty oysters out there already ready to purchase!”

Lucky for us, SAOGA has created an interactive map of the best oyster spots SA has to offer. The “oyster trail” includes local oyster farms, oyster retailers that offer shipping, delivery, and direct to public sales, and the best spots for tourism experiences. It’s a sure-fire way to get the freshest oysters.

“You can’t get better than the freshness straight from the water,” Lowe says.

“A lot of the recipes for good oysters are really simple; Just open them up, put a few ingredients on top and there you go!”

In addition to allowing users to choose where to buy oysters and visit farms, this tool showcases the different regions of SA oysters, all of which have distinct tastes.

“The oysters will taste different at different farms,” Lowe explains. “Over in Cowell, for example, the oysters are saltier than in the West Coast. In Smoky Bay, the oysters are a lot creamier.”

The research is done for you, so what are you waiting for? Check out nutritious and delicious oysters at farms near you.
