Join RSPCA’s Cupcake Day in the fight against animal cruelty

RSPCA is encouraging people across the country to host baking events to raise funds for the thousands of vulnerable animals they rehabilitate and re-home each year.

RSPCA’s sweetest fundraising event returns on Monday 16 August, with the organisation encouraging animal lovers to start digging out their favourite recipes.

The animal-friendly organisation is encouraging you to tie up your apron and grease your baking trays, whipping up a sweet treat in aid of the thousands of animals helped each year by the RSPCA.

Funds raised at each Cupcake Day event help to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home vulnerable animals all over the country, while eating some delicious bakes at the same time.

An incredible $142,989 has been raised for far, with Aussies all over the country getting involved in the baking extravaganza.

Despite its name, RSPCA’s Cupcake Day isn’t limited to cupcakes and sweet treats. RSPCA South Australia’s
Fundraising Coordinator Gemma Weedall encourages the creation and sharing of any culinary offerings that
have the potential to raise funds.

“Not everyone has a sweet tooth, and not everyone’s specialty is baking cupcakes – the main thing is to
bake or make something that’s delicious enough to inspire donations to animal welfare,” Ms Weedall said.

“Being the middle of winter, some fundraisers like to prepare and share comfort foods like nutritious soups, casseroles or savoury snacks with their families, friends and colleagues.”

Everyone who registers for RSPCA’s Cupcake Day receives online access to all the resources needed to host
a memorable event.

RSPCA staff and volunteers are currently caring for more than 600 animals at the organisations three shelters (located at Lonsdale, Whyalla and Port Lincoln) or in foster homes. Only 10% of these animals are available for adoption, with the majority still requiring veterinary care and behavioural support before they are ready to be re-homed.

How RSPCA Cupcake Day donations can make a difference:

• $25 can help provide a homeless kitten with a warm
bed, litter tray and a meal
• $35 can provide oxygen for a full day of surgery at
RSPCA’s Lonsdale vet clinic
• $50 can desex and microchip a small female dog or
puppy prior to the animal’s adoption
