More than 70 SA pubs and venues to open before dawn for Socceroos World Cup clash

More than 70 venues across South Australia will open before dawn this Saturday, giving Socceroos fans plenty of places to watch Australia’s World Cup clash against Egypt.

South Australian soccer fans won’t have to watch the Socceroos from the couch this Saturday morning, with more than 70 pubs, clubs and venues across the state opening their doors in the early hours for Australia’s crucial World Cup clash against Egypt.

Thanks to free short-term liquor licences provided by the State Government, 78 venues across metropolitan and regional South Australia have been given approval to trade outside their usual hours, allowing fans to gather for the 3:30am kick-off.

The temporary licences have been introduced for the duration of the World Cup, making it easier for hospitality venues to welcome supporters during matches that fall outside standard trading hours.

Whether you’re in the CBD, the suburbs or regional SA, there are plenty of places planning to screen the match, including popular spots like The Archer Hotel, The Sussex Hotel, The Palace, Elephant British Pub, The Strathmore Hotel, The Stag Hotel, Arkaba Hotel, Pirate Life Brewing, The Lion Hotel, The Pier Hotel, The Ramsgate Hotel and The Norwood Hotel, alongside dozens more across the state.

For fans wanting a festival atmosphere, The Drive will once again host Adelaide’s official Live Site, opening from 3am ahead of kick-off. The venue will feature a giant 12 x 7 metre screen, plus an MC, live DJ, coffee, bacon and egg rolls and other food and drinks available to purchase.

The Government says venues can continue applying for free short-term liquor licences throughout the remainder of the tournament, helping businesses make the most of Australia’s World Cup campaign while giving supporters more places to watch the action together.

Minister for Consumer and Business Affairs Michael Brown said, “The world game brings people together like nothing else, and we’re making it free and easy for South Australian venues to help fans celebrate.

“More than 70 venues will be open for the game on Saturday morning, with the Malinauskas Government scrapping application fees and fast-tracking approvals so pubs and clubs can make the most of the World Cup.

“We want venues across the state packed with fans, creating the perfect atmosphere to cheer on the Socceroos.”

With Australia chasing another memorable World Cup result, South Australians have no shortage of places to grab a coffee, breakfast and a pre-dawn pint while cheering on the green and gold.
