The cold is continuing in Adelaide with Friday’s showers and blustery change giving way to calmer winter weather across the weekend and into next week.
For the rest of Friday, Adelaide can expect a cloudy day with a shower or two still possible early, before conditions ease through the morning. Westerly to southwesterly winds will make it feel brisk at first, especially near the coast, but those winds should ease later in the day. The city is forecast to reach just 15 degrees, with similar temperatures across Glenelg and Noarlunga, while Mount Barker stays cooler at 13 degrees.
Saturday keeps the cloud around and could bring a possible afternoon shower, with light winds helping take the edge off after today’s gustier conditions. There’s also the chance of morning fog in the northern suburbs, so early commuters may want to allow a little extra time. Temperatures will remain wintry, with a low of 7 degrees and a top of 15.
By Sunday, Adelaide looks a little drier and more comfortable, starting with a cold 5 degree morning before a partly cloudy day. Skies are expected to become cloudier later on, but rain chances stay low. Easterly winds will briefly freshen during the day before easing again in the afternoon.
Monday follows a similar pattern, with another cold start, a partly cloudy sky and light winds. The temperature range stays steady at 5 to 15 degrees, making for a typical mid-winter day across the city. From there, Adelaide’s weather settles into a fairly even rhythm. Tuesday brings a partly cloudy day with just a slight chance of a shower and a slightly milder morning minimum of 8 degrees, while the daytime maximum nudges up to 16.
Wednesday and Thursday continue much the same, with partly cloudy skies, light winds and only a slight chance of a passing shower. Maximum temperatures sit around 15 to 16 degrees, so while there’s no major warm-up on the way, there’s also no sign of anything especially wild for metro Adelaide once today’s change clears.
Across the rest of South Australia, the same cold front moving out to the east is being followed by a high pressure system pushing in from the west, and that high is set to dominate the weekend weather. For much of the agricultural area, isolated light showers are expected to linger into Saturday, especially about windward coasts and ranges, before conditions turn mostly dry on Sunday and Monday.
Morning fog patches are likely in parts of the south and west over the weekend, and frost is possible in the southeast on Monday morning. Temperatures across the state are generally expected to stay below average through the first half of the period, with only modest improvement later next week. Rainfall totals between now and the end of Monday are forecast to stay fairly light for most districts, though the Mount Lofty Ranges and southeast are expected to see the better falls. Further north, pastoral districts have a medium chance of showers from Tuesday through Thursday as winds shift from easterly and northeasterly to northwesterly by Thursday.
Happy Friday!
