Mortal Kombat Officially Begins Production In SA

Screenwriter Greg Russo took to Twitter to confirm the beginning of the shoot, exclaiming, “May the Elder Gods watch over us!”

Earlier this year, Adelaide was announced as the filming location of choice for New Line Cinema’s highly anticipated Mortal Kombat reboot.

Today, production officially commenced. Screenwriter Greg Russo took to Twitter to confirm the beginning of the shoot, exclaiming, “May the Elder Gods watch over us!” along with an image of the iconic Mortal Kombat logo.

Shooting of Mortal Kombat will continue in South Australia until December.

The film, based on the blockbuster video game franchise, is set to be the largest film production in South Australia’s history. The production was slated to create an estimated 580 jobs, with 1,500 extras employed (pay attention Hollywood wannabes) and approximately $70 million injected back into South Australia’s economy.

Mortal Kombat will be shot on Adelaide Studio’s Sound Stages, with post-production taking place in South Australia’s internationally acclaimed visual effects and post-production facilities.

A team of world-renowned Australian filmmakers are attached including James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring) and award-winning commercial filmmaker Simon McQuoid, who will make his feature directorial debut.

Stay tuned for updates.
