New Beam feature allows users to transfer between e-scooters for free

Beam has unveiled the Glide feature, which allows riders to transfer between different e-scooters for free.

Get ready to glide across Adelaide thanks to this new feature!

Beam has unveiled the Glide feature, which allows riders to transfer between different e-scooters for free. The new addition, now live on the app, means users won’t get charged additional money for moving between different scooters.

“You can not hop on and off multiple Beam e-scooters without paying subsequent unlock fees,” Beam says.

“[It’s] perfect for running errands, shopping, exploring a city, or any time short break are needed between multiple trips.”

Previously, Beam riders weren’t able to intermittently stop rides or switch scooters around the city, but this new feature changes that. To use it, users can click the “free unlock” button when it pops up, and they can continue their Beam ride without paying an additional unlock fee.

The company just warns that in order to use the Glide feature, you must make sure you start the new trip within a half an hour after finishing a previous trip.

The e-scooters, which initially launched in Adelaide in 2019, have been used by locals for not only leisure, but as a viable transport option to get from A to B and were seen as a great replacement while the trams were not in use.

Locky Cooper, Beam’s Head of Operations for South Australia, says he is happy with Adelaide and Beam’s collaboration.

“We’ve been made to feel incredibly welcome by the people of Adelaide and our relationship with the Adelaide City Council and the State Government and the Department of Transport is a collaborative partnership,” Cooper says.

“It’s been a lot of fun launching the service and growing it. We have hired local talent, partnered with local business and the feedback has been fantastic.”
