One of Glenelg’s best-known coffee spots has entered a new chapter, with experienced Adelaide hospitality operator Brock Meuris taking ownership of Superette.
The cafe was originally purchased by Joel Amanatidis in 2017, with his brother Marcus Parisi later joining the business. After more than nine years behind the counter, the pair recently announced they were stepping away.
“Thank you to every single one of you who popped by for a coffee, a croissant or just a chat,” they shared on Instagram.
While their departure marked the end of an era, Superette is continuing under Meuris, who is also a co-owner of Terra and Sol at Glenelg and Yeah Nah Yeah cafe in Mitcham.
Both venues are known for creative food and drink offerings, but Superette marks Meuris’ first solo hospitality venture.
“I’ve given it a new lease on life,” Brock told Glam Adelaide.
The cafe’s familiar interior has been retained, with Brock choosing not to alter the heritage-listed corner building. Instead, the biggest changes are appearing across the drinks and takeaway food menus.
Superette is now serving traditional ceremonial-grade matcha, cold brews and a rotating selection of flavoured cold foams, including Milo and maple sea salt.
A monthly feature drink is also planned, giving the team room to experiment with more creative combinations.
Brock said one of the early favourites had been an iced cold brew topped with Milo cold foam, with customers embracing the new additions since he took over.
“Everyone is loving the coffee and the new drinks,” he said. “We’ll definitely look to bring out some quirky new drinks.”
The food cabinet has also been expanded with quick takeaway options including almond croissants, banana bread and danishes.
Cinnamon scrolls, which became a popular part of Superette under its former owners, are also expected to return once Brock finds the right supplier.
The response from regulars and new customers has already been strong.
“I’m getting so much good feedback on our new drinks, we’ve been so busy,” Brock said.
He is now planning to extend Superette’s trading hours to seven days a week, giving locals and visitors more opportunities to stop by for coffee, matcha and a quick bite.
While the ownership and menu have evolved, Brock said the heart of Superette remains unchanged, from its compact heritage setting to its role as a familiar neighbourhood coffee shop.
