South Australia is set to welcome its latest educational facility with a new Catholic school opening in the northern suburb of Riverlea Park in 2025. This new institution will mark the 120th Catholic school to be established in South Australia, extending its educational landscape across a growing community.
The facility will cater to students from early years through to Year 12, meeting the needs of the increasing local population in the Walker Corporation’s Riverlea development and surrounding areas. With its strategic position just 25 minutes from the Adelaide CBD, it is predicted to serve over 40,000 residents of the community under development.
Designed to be innovative and conducive for learning, the new Catholic school will feature a multistorey layout with contemporary classrooms and facilities tailored to a broad curriculum. An Early Learning Centre (ELC) for children aged 6 months to 5 years will also be established on site, alongside Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) services available for its students.
Dr Neil McGoran, Executive Director of Catholic Education South Australia, spoke about the significance of this project, stating, “We are pleased to be expanding our provision of quality Catholic education to families in the northern suburbs. This follows the successful development of new campuses at Two Wells, Davoren Park, and Renmark in recent years. This new school development is part of our commitment to expanding Catholic Education pathways and building an even stronger focus on student learning and quality teaching.”
The construction of the school is set to commence in 2025 with the first stage of the build estimated to cost over $60 million. This initial phase will see around 1,300 people employed in the construction process.
Walker Corporation’s Managing Director and CEO, Mr David Gallant, shared his views about this integral addition to Riverlea, “We are proud to partner with Catholic Education to bring our first school to Riverlea, giving thousands of families access to high quality education. The new school is conveniently located in the heart of the first neighbourhoods we are building, ensuring kids and parents have a short walk from their front door to the school gates.”
Sonia Kandel, a new resident of Riverlea, reflected on her family’s decision to move to the area, saying “It was really important to us when we chose to move to Riverlea that our son would have access to great education and amenities close to home, so it’s exciting knowing that when he’s ready to go to school, he can be at the same one from beginning to end with his friends from the area.”
The school is set to commence the 2027 school year, initially welcoming students from Reception to Year 6. Gradual expansions will follow to eventually accommodate students through to Year 12.
With many looking forward to the completion of this state-of-the-art school, the focus remains on providing quality education and fostering a vibrant community within Adelaide’s ever-expanding northern suburbs.
