Banh Mi, and Vietnamese food in general, is absolutely a staple when it comes to the CBD lunch scene.

Real Rolls is the fresh face in Rundle Mall, having opened its doors to hungry punters. The business prides itself on sharing fresh, flavoursome Banh Mi rolls, as well as a variety of classic Vietnamese dishes.

The idea for Real Rolls was birthed by Hanh Dang, who arrived in South Australia as a young refugee. After returning to her homeland of Saigon in 2012, Hahn was fascinated by the rich culture, bustling way of life, and the number of Banh Mi vendors in the streets.

Hanh remembers seeing an older lady, standing at a small stall, trying to sell her Banh Mi. This reminded Hanh of her own mother, who was still waking at 3am, seven days a week, to support her family. Hahn purchased a Bahn Mi from the lady, a moment which would later play into the inspiration for Real Rolls.

After returning to Australia, in an effort to ease her mother’s workload, Hahn determined to create a “real Banh Mi” recipe in her kitchen at home. Having eventually crafted a recipe she was confident with, Real Rolls launched in 2015, with a store on Hanson Road.

The Dang family work together at Real Rolls, still enthused by the lady in Saigon, determined to make their customers happy with their food.
