Scottish comedian and performer Danny Bhoy is touching down in Adelaide ahead of a 2023 Australian tour.
The Now is Not a Good Time tour will premiere at the Adelaide Royalty Theatre on March 14 and continue until March 19 as part of the Adelaide Fringe program.
Adelaide audiences will be the first in the world to see the international stand-up comic, with credits on The Late Show with David Letterman and Live at the Apollo.
South Australia is often overlooked by travelling acts, but now, they’re at the forefront of the witty and sold-out shows known for attracting praise from the press and generating thunderous applause.
After Adelaide, Bhoy (born Danni Chaudhry, 47) will head to Canberra, April 3; Wollongong, April 9; Melbourne, April 11-16; Sydney, April 27; Newcastle, May 2; Brisbane, May 4-7; and Perth, May 13-15.
Bhoy’s decision to open in Australia comes from his unique love for the country, with a storied history of stellar performances at the Melbourne Comedy Festival in 2003 and his 2011 show, Messenger (Please Do Not Shoot).
In a 2016 Glam Adelaide review of Bhoy’s Fringe show, Please Untick This Box, his showmanship “[…] had the audience drunk with laughter,” at the Adelaide Fringe festival.
Bhoy got his start in 1998, winning The Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award and in 2001, performing at the Edinburgh Festival, where he first found his love for laughs.
Since then, the Scot’s sets have been seen by the world with 12 return trips to the Edinburgh Fringe and 8 tours in the United Kingdom.
His comedic stylings are largely observational and down-to-earth, regularly heckling the audience and embracing his Scottish background while offering commentary on Australia.
