Adelaide’s most iconic shopping strip is counting down to a major milestone, with Rundle Mall launching a $50,000 gold bullion giveaway ahead of its 50th birthday celebrations this September.
From Monday, July 13th until Sunday, September 6th, shoppers who spend $50 or more at participating Rundle Mall businesses can enter the draw for the chance to win $50,000 worth of gold bullion. A $250 Rundle Mall gift card is also up for grabs every week during the promotion.
The golden giveaway is the beginning of a city-wide celebration leading into Rundle Mall’s official 50th birthday, with a week-long program of entertainment, surprises and special events set to take over the Mall from Tuesday, September 1st to Sunday, September 6th.
To enter the gold bullion giveaway, shoppers just need to spend $50 or more at participating Rundle Mall businesses and upload their receipt through the promotion website. One entry is available per person, per day, meaning shoppers can increase their chances by spending an additional $50 and entering on different days throughout the campaign.
For five decades, Rundle Mall has been a place to shop, dine and come together. From first jobs and first dates to family outings and weekend traditions, generations of South Australians have made memories along the city’s bustling pedestrian strip.
“Rundle Mall has been bringing people together in the heart of Adelaide for 50 years, and we wanted to celebrate this milestone by giving South Australians the opportunity to share in the excitement and join us in marking this special occasion,” said Executive Manager of Rundle Mall at the Adelaide Economic Development Agency, Andrew White.
“This milestone is about more than a number. It’s about the millions of moments, memories and connections that have happened here over the past five decades. From now and into September, we’ll be bringing a little extra magic to the Mall as we celebrate our history, our community and the next 50 years of this much-loved Adelaide destination.”
Opened in 1976 by then-Premier Don Dunstan, Rundle Mall was Australia’s first outdoor pedestrian mall, designed to create a city centre where people could gather, shop and socialise. Fifty years later, it remains one of Adelaide’s defining destinations and the largest outdoor mall in the Southern Hemisphere.
Today, Rundle Mall welcomes more than 52 million visitors every year and is home to more than 700 retailers and 300 services, generating around $1.5 billion in annual spending.
The birthday celebrations are sure to honour that long history while looking towards the future, with six days of festivities planned for visitors of all ages.
