Adelaide’s biggest weekend of pop culture just got even bigger, with Supanova Comic Con & Gaming unveiling the first round of celebrity guests set to descend on the city later this year.
Running from Friday, October 30th to Sunday, November 1st at the Adelaide Showground, the three-day convention will welcome an impressive lineup of Hollywood actors, voice stars and comic book legends, with organisers promising even more announcements in the months ahead.
Leading the first wave is Sean Astin, the beloved actor best known as the loyal Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Sean first won audiences over as Mikey in The Goonies before becoming a fan favourite in Stranger Things as the unforgettable Bob Newby.
Sci-fi fans are also in for a treat, with Firefly stars Alan Tudyk and Gina Torres reuniting at the convention. The pair famously played Wash and Zoë aboard Serenity, and both have built remarkable careers since.
Alan has become one of Hollywood’s most recognisable voice actors, bringing characters to life across the Star Wars universe as K-2SO, a role he recently reprised in Andor, while also appearing in projects including A Knight’s Tale, Doom Patrol and Superman.
Making her Supanova debut, Gina is known for starring in Suits, Westworld, Hannibal, Angel and Alias, alongside extensive voice work in The Legend of Vox Machina, Star Wars and Destiny.
Continuing the science fiction theme is Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Anson Mount, who has won audiences as Captain Christopher Pike. His credits also include Marvel’s Inhumans and the animated fantasy series Dota: Dragon’s Blood.
Animation fans won’t miss out either, with Sean Chiplock and Amanda Hufford joining the lineup following the success of The Amazing Digital Circus. The pair voice Kinger and Ragatha respectively, while both are also well known to gamers through the global phenomenon Genshin Impact.
For comic book collectors, one of the biggest drawcards will be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman, returning to Australia alongside acclaimed artist Freddie Williams II, whose work includes Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Injustice vs. Masters of the Universe. They’ll be joined by Australian comic creator Jon Sommariva, known for Batman/TMNT Adventures, Harley Quinn and Neverlanders.
Supanova has grown into Australia’s largest and longest-running pop culture convention since launching in Sydney in 2002. Today, it celebrates everything from comics, anime and gaming to film, television, cosplay and collectibles, attracting thousands of fans across six cities each year.
With three full days of celebrity panels, autograph sessions, cosplay, shopping and interactive experiences on the cards, organisers say this is just the beginning, with plenty more guest announcements still to come before Adelaide’s event.
Tickets for Supanova Adelaide go on sale from 10am AEST on Tuesday, July 21st, with fans encouraged to secure their passes early as excitement builds for one of the state’s biggest pop culture weekends of the year.
