Adelaide is in for a calmer second half of the week, with today’s showers set to ease before a long run of dry, sunny winter weather settles across the city through to the weekend and into early next week.
After a damp start on Tuesday, conditions across Adelaide should improve as the day goes on. Showers are most likely through the morning before becoming less frequent this afternoon, with temperatures reaching around 17 degrees in the city. It will feel cool across the suburbs too, with tops of 16 degrees forecast for Elizabeth, Glenelg and Noarlunga, while Mount Barker is expected to reach 15 degrees. Winds from the west to south-west will ease during the day, helping things feel a little less blustery by late afternoon.
From there, Adelaide’s weather turns notably more settled. Wednesday may begin with a bit of morning fog in some spots, but the afternoon is expected to clear into mostly sunny conditions. Light winds and a top of 16 degrees should make for a crisp but pleasant midweek day after the early chill, with the mercury dipping to 6 degrees overnight.
Thursday looks set to be one of the brightest days of the week, with full sunshine and light winds across the city. After a cold start of 5 degrees, Adelaide is forecast to warm to 17 degrees during the day. Friday follows a very similar pattern, with another sunny day, light winds and a top of 17 degrees after a morning low of 6.
The weekend continues the dry spell, which will be welcome news for anyone planning outdoor catch-ups, markets or a walk along the coast. Saturday is expected to be sunny with light winds becoming northeasterly later in the day, and temperatures nudging up to 18 degrees after a 7-degree start. Sunday will stay mostly sunny, with northeasterly winds turning northerly through the morning and another top of 18 degrees. Overnight temperatures will also lift, with a milder minimum of 10 degrees.
By Monday, a little more cloud is expected to drift back over Adelaide, along with a slight chance of a shower. Even so, it should remain fairly mild by winter standards, with a low of 10 and a top of 18 degrees. Northerly winds are forecast to turn northwesterly during the morning, hinting at a possible change beyond the current forecast period.
Across South Australia more broadly, the pattern is also settling down as a strong high pressure system takes control. Isolated showers are expected about the agricultural area today before clearing by evening, while much of the rest of the state remains dry. Through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, conditions are forecast to stay dry statewide, with maximum temperatures mostly near average for this time of year. The far north is expected to be a little cooler than average by Thursday, while western districts may edge above average by Friday. Rainfall totals for the week are generally low, although the southern agricultural area could see between 2 and 5mm, with isolated falls of 5 to 15mm about the Mount Lofty Ranges.
Along the metropolitan coast, Tuesday brings a 60 per cent chance of showers and slightly choppy conditions early, especially south of Brighton where winds could reach 20 knots in the morning. Seas are expected to ease by midday, with calmer conditions from Wednesday. Boaters can look forward to lighter winds and low seas through the rest of the week.
Happy Tuesday!
