Severe weather warning for the state’s east

A severe weather warning has been announced this morning for areas in the east of the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued the statement at 7:19am this morning announcing a “severe thunderstorm warning for damaging winds and heavy rainfall”.

“For people in Riverland, Murraylands and parts of Mount Lofty Ranges, Mid North and Upper South East districts,” BOM have stated.

The weather situation has been described as “a humid airmass over the south of the state combining with strong winds associated with an upper trough are leading to severe thunderstorm development over the next few hours”.

The severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.

Locations which may be affected include Renmark, Murray Bridge, Lameroo, Waikerie, Karoonda and Coonalpyn.

The State Emergency Service have advised that people should:

* Secure or put away loose items around your property.

* Move cars under cover or away from trees.

* Keep clear of fallen power lines.

* Don’t drive, ride or walk through flood water.

* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.

* Stay indoors, away from windows, while storms are nearby.

If severe thunderstorms develop in the Adelaide Region, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area.
