While delighted tourists from the outback to the coast will be enjoying all the amazing tourism experiences our State has to offer, 24 leading South Australian tourism businesses will represent the State in Hobart on Friday the 15th of February for the chance to be named Australia’s best at the 2012 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.
South Australian finalists include some of the State’s biggest attractions, events and accommodation, such as the Adelaide Fringe , Jacob’s Restaurant at the Jacob’s Creek Visitor Centre, Rawnsley Park Eco Villas, The Australasian Circa 1858 and BIG4 Adelaide Shores Caravan Park .
Adventure Bay Charters – the original swim with the tuna, swim with the sea lions and eco friendly shark cage diving in Port Lincoln South Australia – is competing in a record three categories; Major Tourist Attraction, Adventure Tourism and New Tourism Development.
Six of our nominees are true national award ‘veterans’, with Aboriginal Cultural Tours – Adjahdura Land, Yorke Peninsula, Adventure Bay Charters, Adelaide Convention Bureau, Jacob’s Restaurant, Big4 Adelaide Shores and Sinclair’s Gully all entering the South Australian Tourism AwardsHall of Fame in 2012 for a back-to-back three year win in their various categories.
The Qantas Australian Tourism Awards recognise and promote excellence in tourism, and are the pinnacle of achievement for the tourism industry in Australia. Finalists are drawn from the State and Territory Tourism Awards winners across 26 categories.
South Australian Tourism Industry Council Chief Executive Ward Tilbrook says the national tourism awards provide the opportunity for South Australian tourism experiences to be recognised among the best of the best in the country.
“It is particularly rewarding to see our State winners competing for Gold (winner), silver and bronze medals on the national stage and being acknowledged for the amazing contribution they make to Australian tourism”, he said.
‘I wish all South Australian finalists the best of luck in Hobart”.
More than 50 representatives from the State’s tourism industry will be flying the SA flag and supporting South Australia at the glittering ceremony at Princes Wharf 1 in Hobart.
