This South Australian Gin Has Been Named Best In Australia

A Kangaroo Island Spirits gin has been named the best in the country in the search for Australia’s best gin.

A Kangaroo Island Spirits gin has been named the best in the country in the search for Australia’s best gin.

Their KIS O’Gin was named Best in Show at the inaugural Australian Gin Awards, announced on March 7 in Sydney.

Of the winning gin, judges said, “KIS O’Gin is handcrafted, highlighting juniper, coriander and angelica root in a contemporary London style. Key to its character is the subtle infusion of Kangaroo Island coastal daisy Olearia Axillaris”.

“Sometimes known as wild rosemary, this shrub of the Asteracea family flourishes along South Australia’s coastal regions – it is the perfect complement to enhance the gin’s lively structure. Savoury and dry with a burst of orange, O’Gin has a nose which recalls beach dunes on a hot summer day.”

Also from South Australia, Small Batch Distilling’s Red Hen was named Best In Class for Classic Dry Gin.

One-hundred-and-eighty gins were entered into the Australian Gin Awards from 66 Australian distilleries, many of which are small batch distillers.
