Step into a world of creativity and expression as the Yorke Peninsula (Guuranda) proudly unveils its inaugural Art Festival, GROUNDED.
The much-anticipated 10-day event, which has been in planning since 2022, is set to kick off on Friday, 11th of August, and will captivate audiences with an array of artistic experiences until Sunday, 20th of August.
From exhibitions and live music to artisan products and performances, GROUNDED – Yorke Peninsula Art Festival promises to be a celebration of culture, talent, and the essence of the region.
GROUNDED will transform towns like Ardrossan, Yorketown (Garrdinya), and Edithburgh (Bararmaradi) into vibrant hubs of artistic expression.
“Being the inaugural GROUNDED, it’s quite incredible to reflect on just how many artistic pursuits have been uncovered, and we’ve barely scratched the surface. Guuranda is full of talented creatives and storytellers, with many more to explore and expand in the future,” Sonya Rankine, Arts & Cultural Facilitator at YP Council and Country Arts SA and Robyn Clasohm, YP Arts & Culture Working Group Member tells Glam Adelaide.
Traditionally, these towns have hosted exhibitions of visual art, photography, and sculpture. However, the festival’s shift to August is an exciting change that coincides with the state-wide celebration of the SALA Festival (South Australian Living Artists Festival) and the esteemed Yorke Classic Surfing Competition.
This strategic move ensures a more manageable influx of tourists, allowing everyone to fully immerse themselves in the artistic offerings without the hustle of peak holiday periods.
“August is a beautiful time of year to visit Guuranda – Yorke Peninsula and experience the beauty of the land and sea. Surf’s up, the paddocks are green and canola gold, the salt lakes are iridescent pink and the wildflowers are blooming,” Sonya and Robyn say.
“We’re happy to create a wonderful opportunity for visitors to come, stay and experience our vibrant art and culture, community and small businesses.”
The heart of GROUNDED lies in its commitment to nurturing creativity and fostering connections among the community, including traditional owners, the Narungga People, residents, property owners, and visitors.
The festival aims to inspire and grow the celebration of arts on the ancient, significant, and productive grounds of the Yorke Peninsula (Guuranda).
The name “GROUNDED” itself holds deep meaning as it reflects the region’s fertile grounding in both practical and figurative ways. Art, like the land, has a healing and inclusive quality that keeps us rooted and connected.
GROUNDED – Yorke Peninsula Art Festival has a comprehensive lineup that celebrates a diverse range of artwork and creativity. Residents from across Australia have the opportunity to showcase their talent and gain exceptional exposure, generating further opportunities for local businesses to thrive.
The opening night on August 11th promises to be a grand affair, taking place at Brentwood, a central location for all the captivating events within the GROUNDED program.
The festival will honour the artists, sponsors, and award winners, with a delightful mix of food trucks, a grazing table, a bar, live music, and impressive art displays. The tickets are strictly limited, so registration is essential to secure your spot for this not-to-be-missed celebration of art and culture.
GROUNDED – Yorke Peninsula Art Festival is a perfect opportunity for locals and visitors alike to experience and appreciate the artistic talent of Yorke Peninsula and South Australia. It’s a festival that brings people together, fostering meaningful connections through the power of art.
“We’re very proud to feature an awesome line up of Narungga art and cultural experiences on Nharangga banggara (Narungga country). It’s an incredibly important element to showcase as part of GROUNDED and create the opportunity for our Narungga artists and cultural instructors to share their art, culture and wisdom in an engaging and rich format,” Sonya and Robyn say.
