One of South Australia’s most iconic, and successful wineries, Bird in Hand, is celebrating their 20 year anniversary! They’ve come a long way since the former dairy was purchased and transformed into the beautiful property we now know and love. With 20 years of history, comes a lot of great memories, achievements and reasons to keep going back – so we’ve compiled a list of 20 reasons to celebrate along with the Bird in Hand crew!
- The launch of the brand-new label for its 2017 Bird in Hand sparkling pinot noir. This iconic wine – a perfect celebratory sparkling rosé wine has been released with a new elegant, modern yet classic feel.
- Its beautiful Cellar Door and estate up near Woodside in the Adelaide Hills. Open seven days a week, a favourite spot for enjoying a glass of our favourite wine and taking in the views.
- Those famous silos – the brand-new signage on those blue silos (from the site’s previous incarnation as a dairy farm) can be viewed as you drive up to Bird in Hand.
- The Gallery restaurant – now open seven days a week for lunch with its seasonal menu from chef de cuisine Carlos Astudillo.
- Friday Twilight series – an opportunity to enjoy The Gallery in the evening – having launched in the autumn, there are two more dinners taking place over winter – 7th and 18th August.
- The winemaking team. Led by chief winemaker Kym Milne MW (twice-winner of Winemaker of the Year), the team’s creativity and skill has contributed to some of the finest wines in the Adelaide Hills.
- The JOY flight in the Gallery – this three-hour tasting menu paired with complementing wines is a treat not to be missed on a long Sunday afternoon.
- The variety and scope of its wines. The Bird in Hand sparkling pinot noir is one of its most popular wines, but we also love its Nest Egg range when we want to up the ante – or Tribute Series for the really special occasion.
- Global reach – having launched in the UK and the US last year, Bird in Hand is going places and waving the SA flag overseas.
- Celebrity love – from Stella McCartney to Iman to our own Belinda Sloane, the great and the good all love Bird in Hand.
- The concerts – Bird in Hand’s performances are one of the greatest events to look forward to each summer. Remember: Enjoy A Night Amongst The Vines This Friday With Missy Higgins Live
- The new sculpture from Lisa Roet, ‘White Ape Part 2’, a permanent acquisition as part of Bird in Hand’s 20th anniversary.
- The Nest Egg tasting – we love having a more intimate, in-depth tasting of these wines in our own space in the barrel hall – a chance to find out more and try the wines that are not on the regular tasting list.
- The art – The Gallery restaurant also doubles up as a space for exhibiting exciting and cutting -edge artists, from SA and internationally.
- Collaborations – we love the Dion Lee partnership for Bird in Hand’s Italian varietal wines – such an elegant bottle fitting for these wines.
- Bird in Hand is still family-owned – founded by Andrew Nugent and his father, Michael in 1997, it’s still very much in family hands – with immediate and wider members of the clan working hands-on with the brand.
- The Cellar Door in winter – the cosy log fire provides a haven from cold and is one of the best spots for Winter Reds festival in the Hills.
