A French-themed Family Day comes to Adelaide Hills this Saturday

Fete de bienvenue (14 May) will feature French crepes, a French family-friendly film screening, and Bocce and Quoits on the lawn.

If you’re looking for something to do with the family tomorrow afternoon, why not visit the Adelaide Hills for a French-inspired afternoon at Mount Barker’s Fete de bienvenue.

Hosted by Alliance Francaise Adelaide and the Mount Barker District Council – with support of the Department of Human Services – this French family day will be a great way for kids to learn more about the French language and culture.

This comes as part of Mount Barker’s Welcome Fest – a series of events, workshops, activities and festivals that celebrate cultural diversity in the area.

“We started Welcome Fest last year, and it was really to make families within Mount Barker feel welcome, regardless of where they’re from,” said Monique from Mount Barker District Council.

“We’ve got Alliance Francaise coming along to do some activities with the children, Sweets by Caroline, outdoor games, indoor games, as well as a French family movie screening of Monster in Paris,” said Mount Barker Community Development Officer, Monique Percy.

There will be a range of things to do on the day, all set to truly immerse your kids in the French culture.

French themed activities and games will be on all afternoon, including Bocce and Quoits on the lawn.

For those unfamiliar, Quoits is a traditional game which involves the throwing of metal, rope or rubber rings over a distance to land over or near a spike.

It always seems simple, but can be incredibly humbling. However, it will be provide hours of entertainment for the kids and maybe the competitive adults.

Once you’ve tired out the kids with some games, you can sit and enjoy a screening of a French family movie.

Make sure to take a comfy cushion to sit on for the screening, as none will be provided.

For a much-needed sweet treat your must try the delicious crepes by Sweet by Caroline, and as a nice bonus children will receive a crepe as part of their entry fee. Adults will not miss out, as the crepes will also be available on the day.

Tickets are an absolute steal for this event, children aged 1-17 cost $6.36 and all adults accompanying a child and babies under 12 months are free.

The event will take place on Saturday 14 May between 2pm – 5pm in the Laratinga Pavilion at 100 Springs Road, Mount Barker.
