Adelaide is heading into a mostly settled start to the week, with sunny days and mild temperatures hanging around before showers return later in the week and a wetter finish develops by Friday and Saturday.
For Sunday, Adelaide can expect a calm winter day, with the chance of morning fog giving way to a mostly sunny afternoon and a top of 18 degrees. Light winds will keep things fairly comfortable across the city and suburbs, including Elizabeth, Glenelg, Mount Barker and Noarlunga. Monday follows a similar pattern, with sunny skies and a slightly warmer top of 19 degrees after a cool morning low of 11. Winds will stay light early before turning north to northeasterly through the morning.
Tuesday looks to be the warmest and breeziest day of the early-week stretch, with Adelaide reaching 20 degrees under mostly sunny skies. There is a slight chance of a shower in the southern suburbs by evening, but most of the city should stay dry. Northeasterly winds will strengthen and turn northerly during the day, which will also make conditions choppier along the metropolitan waters.
By Wednesday, the weather shifts a little more noticeably. Showers are likely, especially during the morning, before easing later in the day. Adelaide is forecast to reach 18 degrees, with 1 to 4mm possible, and winds will start quite fresh from the north to northwesterly before easing in the afternoon. That change should move through without dramatic totals, but it will bring a greyer, cooler feel compared with the sunnier start to the week.
The second half of the week stays a bit unsettled. Thursday looks like a pause between systems, with partly cloudy skies, just a slight chance of a shower and a top of 19 degrees. Light winds will become northeasterly later, setting up another wetter burst. Friday turns cloudier with a high chance of showers and a top of 20 degrees, with possible rainfall of 1 to 15mm. Saturday appears to be the wettest day of the seven-day outlook, with a very high chance of showers, a maximum of 18 degrees and 2 to 10mm possible. Winds will swing from north to northwesterly before tending west to northwesterly, keeping that cool, showery pattern in place.
Across South Australia more broadly, the picture is similar in that the week begins fairly quiet before winds freshen and a weakening cold front moves through mid-week. Fog patches are expected across central and eastern districts on Sunday, while southeastern coastal areas may see a few light morning showers. Monday remains mostly dry statewide apart from the chance of light showers in the far northeast, and temperatures are generally sitting above average. By Tuesday, freshening northerly winds will pick up across the state ahead of the front, with isolated showers developing in the west and northeast. On Wednesday, showers spread across the west and agricultural area before easing later, while cooler conditions begin to move into the southwest. Rainfall totals to the end of Wednesday are generally expected to stay below 5mm across the southern agricultural area, the northeast and the southwest, although isolated falls of 2 to 10mm are possible.
For coastal areas near Adelaide, conditions remain manageable through Sunday and Monday with seas below 1 metre, but Tuesday brings stronger northeasterly to northerly winds and seas building to 1 to 1.5 metres south of Port Noarlunga. Wednesday then turns showery on the water, with seas of 1 to 2 metres before easing later in the day.
