You truly can taste the difference between a good burger and a great burger – and anyone who’s visited world-renowned restaurant arkhé will know that theirs sits firmly in the latter category, now with the global recognition to prove it.
The arkhé team have kicked off 2026 on a roll, taking out 5th spot in Australia’s Top 30 Best Steak Restaurants and 16th place in the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants earlier this year. And now, to add to the accolades, the team can proudly boast that arkhé is also home to the 45th best burger in the entire world.
“It’s a very proud moment for the team! To see something as simple as a burger recognised on a global stage reinforces that what we’re doing resonates far beyond our dining room,” arkhé shared the team.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to have that approach acknowledged internationally. It’s a nod to the consistency and intent behind everything we do. Earlier this year we were crowned No. 16 in the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants, so to back that up with a No. 45 in burgers shows how great our quality of produce, our experiences and our food scene here in SA is.”
Opened in 2021 by Jake Kellie, the Norwood venue is led by a stellar captain, previously having headed up Michelin-starred BBQ restaurant Burnt Ends in Singapore. At arkhé, he brings a similar fiery, flame-driven approach to the menu.
“At arkhé, everything revolves around fire and produce – and the burger is no different. You still get that same connection to flame, the same focus on sourcing, and the same attention to detail. Whether it’s a full tasting menu or a burger at the bar, the thinking is exactly the same.”

Alongside arkhé, the 101 Best Burgers list recognised iconic, much-loved venues from all over the world – from Bleecker Burger in London, to Wagyu Mafia in Japan, and even Sip & Guzzle in New York – placing arkhé firmly among the cream of the crop. But what defines these top 101 burger venues?
“These are the burger destinations that stood out not only for what they serve, but for how clearly they define their own world. Some are loud, fast and uncompromising. Others are refined, precise and deeply considered. Some celebrate the purity of the classic cheeseburger, while others push the idea of a burger into new territory,” explain the World’s Best Burger Places list creators.
So what does this mean for arkhé?
“It starts with the meat, as it always should,” says Erica from arkhé.
“We source a mix of exceptional South Australian beef and treat it with respect – balanced, simply seasoned, and, like the rest of our menu, cooked over fire to bring out depth and character. From there, every element is considered.
“The bun is soft but structured, designed to hold everything together without getting in the way. The pickles bring acidity and lift, cutting through the richness and keeping the whole thing in balance. Nothing is overworked or overcomplicated. It’s about restraint and letting each component play its role.”
But the team stresses that the burger is only as good as the people behind it.
“We are genuinely blessed to have extraordinary ingredients to work with – South Australian producers who are deeply committed to quality, people who understand their product.
“Whether that’s the beef, the buns from Prove Patisserie, or My Grandpa Ben’s pickles, you can taste the real pride in what they do. Not only is it a great burger, it’s a South Australian one, and we are really proud of this.”
If you’re yet to experience arkhé, take this as your sign. Book a table, bring your friends, and sink your teeth into the very best SA has to offer.
