Adelaide is set for a chilly rest of the week, with sunny skies today, cool afternoons through the weekend, and a wetter change beginning early next week.
Today will be the pick for anyone keen to get outside, with a mostly sunny day across Adelaide and a top of 16 degrees in the city. There’s a slight chance of morning fog around the hills, but otherwise conditions are calm, with light winds and very little chance of rain. Suburban temperatures are tracking similarly, with Elizabeth and Mount Barker heading for 16 degrees, while Glenelg and Noarlunga are expected to reach 15.
On Thursday, Adelaide can expect a partly cloudy day with light winds, a minimum of 7 degrees and a top of 17. It should stay dry for most people, and while it won’t feel particularly warm, it will be fairly comfortable in the middle of the day once the early chill lifts.
Friday looks much the same, with partly cloudy skies, another cold start and the chance of morning fog. The city is forecast to dip to 8 degrees before reaching 17, and winds are again expected to stay light. It’s an easy enough day for commuters and school runs, though patchy fog could make for a slower start in some spots.
By Saturday, Adelaide stays partly cloudy with a top of 16 and a morning low of 8. Light winds will become east to northeasterly at 15 to 20 km/h during the morning, bringing a bit more movement into the air but not much change to the overall feel. It remains a fairly dry and stable day.
Sunday starts to hint at a shift. It will still be partly cloudy, but there’s a slight chance of a shower as northeasterly winds freshen to 15 to 25 km/h. Adelaide is forecast to reach 17 after a low of 9, with only light rainfall possible, but it marks the beginning of a more unsettled finish to the week.
That change becomes more noticeable on Monday, when showers are more likely later in the day. After a milder overnight low of 11, the city is expected to reach 18, with northeasterly winds turning northerly during the morning. Rainfall totals are expected to stay modest, but it could be a good idea to keep the umbrella close by if you’re heading out in the afternoon or evening.
Tuesday looks like the wettest day in the seven-day outlook, with a high chance of showers and up to 6 mm possible. Temperatures will range from 11 to 17 degrees, with north to northwesterly winds at 15 to 25 km/h. After several quiet winter days, that will be the clearest sign that Adelaide’s settled spell is breaking down.
Across the rest of South Australia, conditions remain cold to very cold through the middle of the week, especially in central and eastern districts where morning frost and fog are a feature. Southern coastal districts and parts of the Nullarbor may see isolated showers, with light falls also possible later in the week around the Flinders, southern pastoral areas and on and east of the ranges.
Rainfall totals are generally expected to stay low, though Kangaroo Island and the Lower South East could see slightly higher falls, especially on windward coasts. Regional travellers should also stay alert to lingering flood impacts in the state’s inland river country, where roads and access tracks may still be affected.
Happy Wednesday!
