As construction continues on the Adelaide Central Market’s once-in-a-generation expansion, Adelaide foodies have been given another glimpse of what awaits, with a fresh lineup of traders announced for the highly anticipated new precinct.

Already recognised as Australia’s best market and ranked third in the world, the Adelaide Central Market is set to welcome a mix of beloved local brands, artisan producers and international food specialists.

Local Kitchen Co, Harvey

Among the headline additions is multi-award-winning craft brewer Shapeshifter Brewing Co, which will bring its acclaimed beers into the heart of the CBD food destination, Freestone Farm, offering artisan pantry products, produce and local wines, Local Kitchen Co. will offer nutritious ready-made meals and Hummus Hustle will be serving house-made hummus inspired by generations of Lebanese family recipes.

Joining them is the return of O’Sushi O’Bento, making a comeback to the precinct after 15 years. The popular Japanese eatery will offer both dine-in and takeaway sushi and bento boxes, giving longtime fans something to celebrate.

Specialty coffee concept Caffe Fontana will be connected to the iconic Grind Roast Masters family, while sweet-toothed visitors will find plenty to tempt them at Crepe Bar and Matcha K.

Crepe Bar’s Yianni Oikonomou, says joining the Market feels like a natural fit. “We are incredibly excited to be joining the Adelaide Central Market and to become part of such an iconic South Australian destination,” said Yianni. “For us, it’s a fantastic opportunity to share our passion for authentic, freshly made crêpes with both locals and visitors from around the world. The Market’s vibrant atmosphere and strong focus on quality food make it the perfect home for Crepe Bar.”

The stall will serve sweet and savoury crêpes made fresh to order using traditional European techniques and quality ingredients, with customers able to watch their crêpes being prepared right in front of them.

“We aim to deliver a warm, welcoming and interactive experience where customers can watch their crepes being made right in front of them and enjoy a little moment of indulgence while exploring the Market.”

The expansion will also welcome Frantic Whisk, an Adelaide Hills family business specialising in handmade Dutch biscuits and stroopwafels.

“We’re absolutely thrilled that our little family business will be joining such an array of high-quality producers,” shared Frantic Whisk’s Lauren Mitchell. “We love the Adelaide Central Market, it’s such an iconic part of South Australia’s food culture and exactly the kind of food-loving community we want to be part of.

Their new stall will serve as a flagship store, showcasing premium handmade Dutch biscuits and freshly pressed stroopwafels. “We’re really excited to introduce freshly made stroopwafels, pressed to order right at the stall. Customers will be able to watch the whole process and catch the irresistible waft of warm caramel and spices as they walk by. We’re hoping to create an experience that will become a market favourite.”

Also on the lineup is Poderosa, which previously built a loyal following through the Market’s Producer in Residence program. Poderosa Cafe’s Mary Avila shared, “We’re incredibly excited and honoured to join the Adelaide Central Market community. As one of Australia’s most iconic food destinations, and with the Market entering an exciting new chapter through its expansion, it’s the perfect place for us to share the flavours, culture and warmth of Colombia with locals and visitors from around the world.”

Poderosa’s hero product will be its handmade stuffed Colombian arepas, served alongside authentic Colombian coffee and beverages in a bright setting designed to bring a taste of South America to Adelaide.

Construction is now underway on the expanded $400 million Market Square development, which will introduce new market-style stalls, food and beverage kiosks, and larger dining and retail spaces along Gouger and Grote streets. With craft beer, Colombian arepas, freshly pressed stroopwafels, Japanese matcha desserts and traditional French crêpes all set to join the mix, the next chapter of the Adelaide Central Market is shaping up to be one of its most exciting yet.
