Chinatown hot pot hotspot receives the ultimate kid-friendly glow-up

It takes for an Adelaide hotpot joint to stand out, but this new kids’ area will likely have adults lining up for a turn.

Hotpot has fast become one of Adelaide’s favourite ways to eat out, and with so many brothy joints popping up across the city, it takes something special to stand out.

That’s exactly what The Hotpot Guy on Gouger Street has managed with its fresh new renovation, a slick interior glow-up that includes the ultimate kids area.

“Nowadays, many people seek more personal space when dining out with friends and family,” a representative of the business shared.

“Therefore, we designed semi-open screens in the public area to provide a comfortable environment. We also have three private rooms for business banquets, birthday parties, and other occasions to fit the needs of our customers.”

Step inside and you’ll find a bright, modern space buzzing with atmosphere. The curvy screens wind through the dining room, beautiful pendants hang, and gold and oranges colour the space, making the dining experience both “relaxed and energetic.”

The new space also includes a custom wine cabernet, and private dining rooms accommodating up to eighteen.

But what really seals the deal for families is the brand-new kids’ zone tucked at the back. It’s packed to the brim with all the good stuff, including a ball pit, slide, trampoline and movies on the projector.

“Designed with safety as the top priority, this space is clean, secure, and filled with engaging activities to keep little ones entertained,” they shared.

“While you enjoy your meal, your kids can explore and play in a safe environment just steps away. It’s the perfect balance of relaxation for parents and fun for children… designed so that families with children can better enjoy their meals out.”

The fun doesn’t stop there, the hotpot is equally as engaging for the little ones. This Guy’s is regional Chinese influence, and the menu also recieved a recent finesse along with the renos. You can go for your own individual pot (ideal if everyone wants a different flavour) or opt for a big shared pot in the middle of the table for a true family-style feast.

Broths range from mild and nourishing coconut chicken (perfect for kids) to fiery Sichuan chilli butter, with trays of meat, seafood, noodles and veggies ready to be cooked right at the table. There’s also a sauce bar so you can mix up your own perfect dipping combo, and crowd-pleasing sides like fried rice, spring rolls and Hong Kong satay.

For something extra special, live seafood like coral trout and mud crab adds a bit of theatre to the meal and mesmerised googly eyes from the little ones. There’s also premium soup bases like lobster soup, free range chicken broth, and a rich stewed chicken in cooking wine for an elevated touch.

The idea behind the glow-up was to “improve quality of the dining and enhance aesthetics,” and between the buzzing atmosphere, the new kids’ area, and the fun share-style nature of hotpot, The Hotpot Guy is the perfect pick for a family night out. The kids’ space might even have some adults reliving their youth, but nobody in mind, though.
