La Grande Gita, one of the signature events as part of the Adelaide Italian Festival, is returning for its second year, thanks to support from Bike SA.

Rolling off on Sunday, 6 November, La Grande Gita marks the first event on the Adelaide Italian Festival calendar and is a fun family-friendly bike ride through the stunning surroundings of the Barossa, combined with local food and wine; a classic Italian affair.

Resembling the popular L’Eroica cycling event held in Siena, Italy, riders participating in La Grande Gita are also encouraged to use their own vintage bikes, accessories and clothing to celebrate Italian culture and the history of riding as a whole.

Kicking off at 8am at Calabria Family Wines, all riders and guests will be able to enjoy hot coffee and cake in the morning, getting them ready and energised for the day ahead.

The event caters to riders of all abilities, where participants will be able to choose between four social races, Mega Grande (85km), Grande (60km), Mezzo (44km) and Piccolo (25km), with each route varying their tracks to suit, from quiet backroad and flat rail-trail riding to some of the most challenging gravel and bitumen.

Throughout each race, riders will be able to pit stop at three fellow Barossa wineries to take a breather and recharge, including God’s Hill, Cirillo Wines and Lou Miranda, adding a unique Italian flare to this social riding event.

Riders will then be able to wine and dine at the final checkpoint, Calabria Family Wines, where they can collect their goodie bag and kick back, relax and enjoy a gorgeous wine tasting and lunch with family and friends, overlooking the beautiful Barossa Valley.

If individuals do not wish to take part in the race, there is plenty more to see at this family-friendly event, as guests and supporters can still enjoy each winery in all its glory.

Specially designed jerseys will also be available for purchase closer to the date but for those who have vintage ride attire, there will be prizes awarded for best dressed, so participants are encouraged to think outside of the box.

Registrations are now open and are an essential process to participate in this event. To register, click here.
