The Adelaide Hills is about to switch on some serious festive magic, with Hahndorf unveiling its first-ever Hahndorf Christmas Village from 12–14 December—a brand-new three-day celebration set to transform the iconic Main Street into a glowing European-style Christmas wonderland.
Inspired by the twinkling light displays made famous on King William Road and Jetty Road, the historic village will be lit from end to end, creating the perfect backdrop for late-night shopping, live entertainment, family fun, and the return of the hugely popular Gathered Christmas Design Market.
Chair of the Hahndorf Business and Tourism Association and owner of Storison, Carolyn Cattrall, says the weekend is all about bringing the Hills community together in the most magical way. “The Hahndorf Christmas Village is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the festive season. We’re excited to welcome visitors to experience the magic of Hahndorf, support local businesses, and enjoy a variety of festive activities for the whole family. There’s truly something for everyone to enjoy.”
Across the three days, more than 150 boutique stores will be joining the festivities with extended trading, Christmas displays, special offers and treats—including festive handmade chocolates from Bracegirdle’s, like their Bon Bon Rocky Road and Advent Calendar Chocolate Block.
Food and drink will be a major highlight too, with Glühwein from Eis Haus bringing that classic German Christmas warmth, alongside bratwurst, pretzels, sweets, wine, coffee and seasonal drinks served throughout the village.
Families can head straight to Santa’s Hub at Comida, where little ones can meet Santa, snap a photo and settle in for Christmas crafts, while parents enjoy a drink and nibbles in a relaxed festive setting.
Meanwhile, the Gathered Christmas Design Market at Alec Johnston Park will showcase over 100 South Australian makers, designers and gourmet producers, offering everything from homewares and fashion to beautifully crafted gifts.
At the Hahndorf Academy Lawns Activation Zone, expect creative workshops, live performances and plenty of hands-on fun for the kids. Roaming musicians and performers will bring the soundtrack of Christmas to Main Street across the whole weekend, ensuring that no matter where you wander, you’re wrapped up in festive cheer.
Visitors can also take advantage of the Lions Assistance Dogs gift-wrapping station, supporting an important local cause while ticking off the Christmas list.
