There’s nothing more warming and satisfying in winter than good coffee in a cosy environment, where every customer feels like they’re in a home away from home. That’s exactly what you’ll find at Our Place, the new kids on the block in Payneham South.
Our Place is situated in a side street in Payneham South, and for owner Nathan Sparrow, the chosen location was imperative in maintaining the cafe’s homely image.
“Location was never just about finding a building – it was about finding a home,” he says. “We saw an opportunity to bring something different to the area: a café that offers more than just a menu. We wanted to create a space where people could slow down, connect, and feel like they belong. The area was looking for something warm, personal, and inviting, and we felt this was the place to bring that vision to life.”
A great source of pride for the cafe is the coffee, using a smooth organic blend from Espresso79 in Brisbane, which has become a favourite among the regular crowd and a pleasant surprise for newcomers discovering the space for the first time.

The food menu consists of fresh, quality ingredients and dishes that are prepared on-site, designed to be flavourful and comforting. The kitchen’s thoughtful approach to cooking promotes sustainability and aims to minimise waste by ensuring every ingredient is utilised wherever possible. This includes creating a sourdough crumb from their sourdough bread ends, and repurposing herb stems in oils, sauces and dressings.
The current menu features cafe favourites including smashed avo with a twist, exotic mushrooms with a free-range poached egg, a roast vegetable panini with charred peppers and whipped feta, and a selection of sweet treats, house-made cakes and slices, and raw bites.
The menu is in the process of expanding the lunch selection to include burgers, warm vegetable salads, a range of protein add-ons, and an “ankle biters” menu for their littlest customers. Also hot on the future agenda is a pantry wall featuring homely essentials such as artisan breads, local olive oils, fresh milk, and other quality products.

The cafe isn’t just bringing you amazing coffee and Instagram-worthy food pics – its heart and soul rest in the atmosphere and in building rapport with customers. From busy workers grabbing a quick cappuccino on the run, to parents meeting after a school drop-off, friends brunching in style, or families gathering around a table to share breakfast, Our Place is for everyone.
“We’re not just serving coffee and food; we’re building connections. Every guest is treated like they’re visiting our home, and that’s something we never want to lose,” says Nathan. “If you leave with a smile, a great coffee, and the feeling that you’ll be back soon, we’ve done our job.”
