A glass of Bird in Hand Sparkling? Uh, yes, please!
Now that’s the way you want to spend your Sunday right? Wining* and dining. Rather than settling for your regular pub session, there’s a much more glamorous option which happens regularly at The Kensi Hotel. Nestled in the back streets of Kensington Park, this Adelaide institution plays host to some great long lunches, showcasing some of South Australia’s best wines alongside a mouth-watering degustation menu to match! The Kensi Long Lunch is the perfect Sunday experience and it’s not one to be missed.
*Note: Wining as in the sense of drinking wine, not the sexy Caribbean dance performed by women which is said to be much better than twerking.
Yesterday’s long lunch featured wines by Bird In Hand, which were paired perfectly with the 6-course degustation menu designed by the talented chefs at The Kensi Hotel, and what a spectacular line-up it was!
Course 1, served on arrival (with another glass of bubbles) was a delicate oyster and scallop tartare with lovely fresh herbs and a zesty finish. Course 2 sent our tongues wagging with beetroot cured kingfish, crisp pickled vegetables and salmon roe, which matched well with the Bird in Hand 2016 Chardonnay.
Talk about value for money (Tickets $100 + booking fee), 3 glasses of Bird in Hand red wine were then poured and ready for the remaining courses. With the vibrant flavour and elegance typically found in Adelaide Hills wines, we were spoilt with flavour as we drooled over the duck and lamb dishes that followed.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and as we approached the final course of 85% rich dark chocolate cake and vanilla bean ice cream, we were presented with “A glass of Christmas” – the Bird in Hand Fortified Merlot – the best way to finish off any meal and a great end to a delightfully long lunch.
The Kensi’s Long Lunch experiences will continue for those lucky enough to nab a spot, so check out what’s coming up on their Facebook page here
