Local sporting clubs across South Australia are being given a major funding boost, with applications now open for a $5.9 million program aimed at upgrading and improving community sport and recreation facilities.
Through the Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program (CRSFP), eligible organisations can apply for grants ranging from $5,000 to $750,000 to help deliver projects that support grassroots participation and strengthen local sporting communities.
The funding will support a range of infrastructure projects, including upgrades to playing surfaces, sports lighting, changerooms, clubrooms and the development of multi-use sport and recreation facilities.
Designed to create more accessible, inclusive and sustainable spaces, the program aims to encourage more South Australians of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to get involved in sport and active recreation.
“Quality sport and recreation facilities play a vital role in helping South Australians stay active, connected and engaged in their communities,” said Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing Rhiannon Pearce.
“The Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program supports projects that deliver lasting benefits, creating welcoming and inclusive spaces where people of all ages and abilities can participate.”
This year’s funding round introduces a new two-stage application process, designed to make applying easier for clubs and organisations.
“From upgraded changerooms and lighting to improved playing surfaces and community facilities, this funding helps local organisations meet growing demand and provide better experiences for participants, volunteers and supporters,” said Rhiannon.
“We know that investing in community infrastructure is about more than buildings and facilities – it is about creating places where people can come together, build connections and strengthen their sense of belonging.”
Applicants will first submit a Registration of Interest (ROI), with shortlisted projects then invited to progress to a full application. The updated approach aims to reduce the administrative workload for applicants while allowing detailed assessment to focus on the strongest proposals.
Previous funding recipients include Christies Beach Sports and Social Club, which received $222,000 to install four LED light towers at Bice Oval.
The upgrade transformed the club’s facilities by allowing it to host night matches for the first time, extending training opportunities and improving community access to the oval.
The new lighting system has also helped improve energy efficiency, strengthen the club’s long-term sustainability and create opportunities to attract new players, volunteers and supporters.
The CRSFP aligns with the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing’s 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, which aims to build a thriving sport and active recreation sector across the state.
Through investment in community spaces and infrastructure, the program will help ensure South Australians have access to facilities that support participation, connection and healthy lifestyles.
Registrations of Interest for the latest funding round close at midday on Friday, September 4th, with shortlisted applicants to be invited to submit full applications from October 2026.
