South Australians looking to swap four wheels for two have more options than ever, with the Adelaide Metro Bike n Ride network continuing to grow through new secure bike storage facilities at key stations and interchanges.
The State Government is expanding access to active and public transport by investing in additional bike cages, making it easier for commuters to cycle to train stations, interchanges and continue their journey by public transport.
A new secure bike cage has recently opened at Woodville Railway Station, while another facility at Mawson Interchange is expected to open later this month. Once complete, the expanded network will include 21 Bike n Ride facilities with around 500 parking spaces across Adelaide’s metropolitan transport system.
The free enclosed facilities allow cyclists and personal mobility device users to safely store their bikes before catching a train, tram or bus. Each bike cage includes security features such as CCTV monitoring and internal bike rails, giving commuters peace of mind while they continue their journey.
Passengers can access the facilities using a registered metroCARD with Bike n Ride access enabled.
The latest additions build on facilities already delivered at locations including Salisbury, Smithfield, Golden Grove and Old Reynella over the past four years, with Adelaide Metro continuing to explore future locations to meet growing demand.
The investment comes as more South Australians look for flexible and sustainable ways to travel, with research undertaken for the South Australian Transport Strategy finding that 44 per cent of residents want to walk and cycle more often.
With more than 205,000 journeys made on Adelaide Metro services every weekday, the expanded Bike n Ride network aims to make active travel a more convenient option for commuters across the city.

“Expanding bike n ride facilities encourages more commuters to change their travel habits and provides greater flexibility.
“Whether it’s riding to your local station or using an e-bike to connect with public transport, we’re making it easier to combine different transport options as part of the same journey.”
