A new way to experience the Adelaide Hills has arrived, with a first-of-its-kind trail inviting visitors to swap the traditional wine tour for a journey through a collection of farms, orchards and flower fields in a pick-your-own adventure style experience.
Designed as a self-drive journey, the trail showcases the diversity of the Adelaide Hills beyond its famous wine industry, highlighting everything from flower farms and lavender fields to working orchards and artisan producers.
“The Adelaide Hills has built a world-class reputation for its wine industry, and this new trail builds on that success by showcasing the incredible diversity of farm experiences our region has to offer,” shared Adelaide Hills Tourism Executive Officer Stella Biggs.
“From flower farms to working orchards, lavender fields to artisan producers, agritourism is a natural complement to our celebrated wine sector. Agritourism connects visitors with our producers, our landscapes and our stories, and this trail will encourage them to stay longer, explore more and support our local farming community.”
The trail aims to encourage visitors to explore the region’s landscapes and connect directly with the growers and makers behind some of South Australia’s best produce.
Steph Kilpatrick, Publisher of Adelaide Hills Pantry added, “The Adelaide Hills wine industry has shown us what’s possible when a region rallies behind its producers. This project stands on the wine industry’s shoulders and aims to extend that success to agritourism.
“Visitors already visit the Hills for world-class wine. Now they have even more reasons to stay overnight, explore, and connect with the land and the people who work it.”
Helping visitors navigate their way through the region is a specially illustrated map created by Adelaide Hills artist Chris Edser, who grew up in Piccadilly. The map artist has previously created popular regional maps across South Australia, including the Adelaide Hills Roadside Stalls map commissioned by Adelaide Hills Pantry.
So if you’re planning a weekend adventure, the trail offers another reason to head into the Hills. Printed maps are available from participating farms along the trail, with a digital version also available through the Adelaide Hills Tourism website.
