Adelaide weather forecast for Monday June 8 and the days ahead

Adelaide is set for a sunny start to the week before showers and gusty winds arrive midweek, with wetter conditions returning for the weekend. Here’s what to expect across the next 7-days.

Adelaide is set for a mostly mild and fairly pleasant week, with sunshine leading the way early before a couple of wetter changes arrive from midweek and again over the weekend. For locals, that means a bright start to Monday and Tuesday, a burst of showers on Wednesday, then a return to calmer conditions before another unsettled spell rolls through on Saturday and Sunday.

Today is shaping up as the pick of the early week, with sunny skies across Adelaide and a top of 19 degrees in the city. Light north to northeasterly winds will keep things comfortable, and there’s little to no chance of rain. Tuesday stays on the mild side too, with a mostly sunny day and a slightly warmer top of 20 degrees. Winds will freshen through the day, turning northerly and reaching 20 to 30 km/h, so it may feel a little brisk by the afternoon and evening. There’s only a slight chance of a shower at night, but most of the day should stay dry.

Wednesday brings the week’s first notable change for Adelaide, with showers very likely, especially during the morning, before easing later in the day. Temperatures will dip to a cooler 17 degrees after an overnight low of 13, and gusty north to northwesterly winds of 25 to 40 km/h will gradually ease as the day goes on. It looks like one of those classic wintery Adelaide mornings where an umbrella will be worth having on hand for the commute.

By Thursday, the city settles again. Skies will be partly cloudy, winds light, and the temperature will lift back to 19 degrees after a chilly start of 8. There is also the chance of morning fog around the northern suburbs, so early travellers may want to allow a little extra time on the roads. Friday continues the warming trend, with a mostly sunny morning and a top of 22 degrees. Cloud will increase later, and there’s a slight chance of a late shower, but much of the day should still be pleasant.

The weekend then turns more unsettled. Saturday is expected to be cloudy with a very high chance of showers and a cooler maximum of 18 degrees. Rainfall totals could range from 1 to 9 mm, making it the wettest day in Adelaide’s seven-day outlook. Sunday remains showery, though a touch less intense, with a partly cloudy day, a high chance of showers and a top of 19 degrees. Light winds will become northerly during the morning.

Across the rest of South Australia, the broader pattern is being driven by a high moving east and a series of cold fronts brushing the state. Most districts stay mostly dry through Monday, with isolated fog patches in eastern parts of the northern agricultural area and above-average temperatures in many regions. On Tuesday, showers begin developing in the west while the northeast could also see isolated falls, with freshening north to northwesterly winds making for a blustery day in several districts. Wednesday is the most active day across regional SA, with showers affecting central and eastern parts of the agricultural area before clearing east later on. The southwest is likely to feel cooler behind the change, while western coasts, Eyre Peninsula and Kangaroo Island are among the places most likely to record the higher rainfall totals by Thursday. Looking further ahead, the inland flood situation remains a serious concern, with elevated river levels continuing along the Warburton River at Poothapootha Waterhole and lower Cooper Creek around Innamincka. Flooded roads and crossings are still affecting travel in these remote areas.
