Award-winning d’Arenberg launch new mid-strength wine perfect for summer

Renowned South Australian winery d’Arenberg has unveiled its new “The Low Life” Sauvignon Blanc which is a mid-strength wine perfect for today’s modern world.

Renowned winery d’Arenberg, known for its commitment to quality and innovation, has launched its latest creation, “The Low Life” Sauvignon Blanc from the Adelaide Hills.

With an alcohol content of just 8.0% alc/vol, this mid-strength wine was created with today’s fast-paced world in mind.

It’s been meticulously crafted to be the ultimate lunchtime wine. Its lower alcohol content ensures you can enjoy a glass of fine wine without compromising your afternoon productivity. It’s a sophisticated and responsible choice for those days when the call of wine beckons, but your to-do list is far from complete.

Recent research shows that many Australian drinkers are consuming more lower-strength alcohol products, alongside full-strength drinks. In fact, a survey conducted in 2022 revealed that 60 percent of surveyed Australian consumers intend to somewhat increase their consumption of no/low alcoholic drinks in the coming years. But what sets “The Low Life” Sauvignon Blanc apart is its natural approach to achieving that lower alcohol level.

Unlike many other lower-alcohol wines, this one hasn’t undergone any artificial alcohol removal process. It retains all the quality attributes that have made Adelaide Hills’ Sauvignon Blanc so popular but with less alcohol.

With a history dating back to 1912, d’Arenberg is no stranger to creating a diverse range of wines that are celebrated worldwide such as the iconic shiraz ‘The Dead Arm’ and other alternative varietals like Mencia, Nero d’Avola, Montepulciano, and Fiano. So, it’s no surprise the brand has been able to create a new line that lives up to the ‘d’Arenberg hype’.

“The Low Life” showcases all the hallmarks of great Sauvignon Blanc from the Adelaide Hills. Its appearance is clear and pristine, with a light green hue.

Aromatics of fresh lime, pear, snow peas, asparagus, and a hint of basil greet the nose. The palate is vibrant and lively, led by a citrus core of lemon curd and lime zest, followed by tropical notes of grapefruit, passionfruit, green apples, and pear. The finish is long and mineral, characterized by a flinty quality, leaving a lasting impression of freshness.

The secret behind “The Low Life’s” exceptional balance begins in the vineyard. Grapes from the cooler slopes of the Adelaide Hills were harvested early to ensure low sugar levels and an abundance of fruit flavours.

To enhance these flavours, the grape skins were left in contact with the juice for an extended period. Twenty percent of the ferment occurred in French oak barrels with wild yeasts for two weeks.

The wine was then matured on lees, adding further complexity. The ferment was intentionally chilled and stopped early, maintaining the natural sugar balance, which contributes to the wine’s lower alcohol content without compromising its flavour and intensity.

This exquisite mid-strength Sauvignon Blanc, “The Low Life,” is now available for purchase alongside d’Arenberg’s other diverse range of full-strength wines.
