One of Adelaide’s oldest aerated water manufacturers is coming back home. The iconic SA soft drink brand which was discontinued in the early 90s will soon be back on shelves for you to enjoy.

Halls Soft Drinks took to social media to make the exciting announcement.

“It is with great excitement that we inform you that the Halls brand of traditional soft drinks is once again back in the hands of a South Australian, family owned business!,” Halls Soft Drink said in a statement.

“Over the coming months we will continue to work on bringing the look and feel of the brand back to life, but more importantly revive the great tasting flavours (perhaps some new ones…) that many generations came to love – and unfortunately miss – over the past two decades.”

The brand is coming back home all thanks to the hard work of Cameron Ballard. With fond memories of the iconic SA brand from enjoying the drink as a kid, Cameron decided he wanted to bring Halls back to life after it was discontinued in 2000.

Set to be available by mid-summer 2021/2022, The all new (but same old) Halls will be offering Halls Lemon Twist, Halls Fruita, Halls Lemonade and Halls Stonie Ginger Beer.

“That’s what I’m bringing back to begin with,” Cameron said.

“They’re the ones that I’ve tried to emulate as close as possible flavour and branding wise too.

“Later I will look at bringing back more original flavours and have some new ones on offer too.”

“My aim is to replicate what the older labels used to look like – people will have the product in their hand and feel like they’re in the 80s.”

Cameron has been in close contact with the original Halls family in his process of replicating the drinks.

“I’m trying to replicate the product as intimately and closely to the original as possible.” Cameron said.

“I’ve worked really hard to have the Halls trademark removed from coke on the basis of lack of use.

“There’s been lots of holdups but we’ve made it.”

Halls was founded by George Hall in in Marryatville in 1851. The brand grew to be a massive success producing award winning products, establishing a national reputation and providing employment and training in our state.

George first established himself as a soda-water maker who specialized in the brewing of the fine ‘Stonie’ ginger beer, which was sold in ceramic jars.

In 1869, George’s sons Henry, Thomas and Edward joined him in the soft drink production where they relocated to Edward Street Norwood.

The label grew in popularity and production and continued to produce from SA until it was sold to Coca-Cola in 1972.

The Halls name continued to be used on some popular soft drinks until the label was discontinued in October 2000.

Cameron who also owns SA brand Coffee World said re-establishing the Halls brand has been a process but he is glad to have finally made it.

“I would really love and appreciate everyone’s love, support and patience,” he said.

“I don’t want to make a bunch of money and disappear – I want it to be a long standing institution and bring the iconic drinks back to SA.”
