Brighton is the kind of place where local businesses know their neighbours, the beach is just a short stroll away, and there’s always an excuse to stop for a coffee, a bite to eat or something sweet.

And now, the growing seaside strip is giving locals another reason to stay a for something sweet, with Açaí Affair preparing to open its doors, bringing colourful toppings and an exclusive new flavour in their community-wide celebration.

In a beautiful display of Brighton’s community spirit, around six or seven neighbouring businesses are coming together to help welcome the new arrival, turning the grand opening into a big Brighton affair.

Brighton Bakery is even creating custom-made doughnuts for the occasion, while neighbouring businesses including Doozy and Aqua Living are getting involved in the festivities.

With seating for around 15 people indoors and another 15 outside, there’ll be plenty of opportunity to settle in and enjoy the beachside atmosphere.

Co-owner Imarn said the decision to bring Açaí Affair to Brighton was a no-brainer.

“We have had a lot of customers say, how about you guys come down the south?”

Following successful openings in Hyde Park and Burnside Village, the team began searching for a coastal location. And while several beachside suburbs were considered, Brighton’s warm community quickly won them over.

“We’ve had so many neighbouring businesses and locals coming in and they are so nice, so welcoming.”

Working alongside their new neighbours, the team is organising a grand opening featuring local collaborations, special promotions and some sweet surprises, with more details to be announced shortly.

And speaking of surprises, Brighton will be getting something customers at the other Açaí Affair locations haven’t had the chance to try.

An exclusive blue bubblegum soft serve is being created especially for the seaside store, inspired by the colours and carefree atmosphere of Brighton Beach.

The limited-edition flavour will be joined by special toppings and other opening treats, with the collaboration with Brighton Bakery adding another local twist to the celebrations.

Alongside these exclusives, customers will still find Açaí Affair’s familiar range of açaí and frozen yoghurt offerings.

But while the colourful bowls and frozen desserts will undoubtedly be a drawcard, the owners are equally excited about creating another welcoming meeting place for the neighbourhood.

Originally, the Brighton store was going to be a simple grab-and-go destination, perfect for people heading to and from the beach.

“But obviously not everyone prefers that, so we thought people definitely need to sit down in a good indoor and outdoor space.”

Imarn credits his wife and fellow co-owner, RB, as the creative force behind Açaí Affair. It was RB who encouraged the couple to look beyond açaí and introduce frozen yoghurt, creating an experience that could appeal to everyone from teenagers and young adults to families with little ones.

Now, with their third Adelaide location almost ready, that vision is heading to the coast.

The owners have taken extra care with the fit-out and approvals, respecting the heritage character of Brighton’s much-loved shopping strip.

And although the final opening date is still to be announced, the team is aiming to welcome customers in the coming weeks, with plans for the grand opening already well underway.

Brighton isn’t just getting a new açaí shop.

It’s getting another place for the community to come together, and the neighbours are making sure it receives a very sweet welcome.
