Fill a bag for $5? Two-for-$3 accessories? No item over $60?

Sounds like every op-shop addict’s dream.

On Sunday 28th June, Thrift Fest is delivering exactly that, encouraging everyone to head on down to the Rob Roy Hotel to “swap, share and save the planet”.

The event is being organised by Three of Cups Teahouse. While many might not be familiar with this small, slightly subversive hideaway tucked away in the Myer Centre, it has built quite the loyal community around it.

Described as “a calm oasis hidden in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city”, it’s a space where you can meet like-minded friends, take a work meeting, read a book, or shop local artisans’ giftware, while you drink hand-blended teas and enjoy homemade baked goods. It’s a collective that knows how to do community and cosiness well, and we’re sure Thrift Fest will follow suit.

From 11 am to 4:30 pm, attendees can browse, buy, and take part in a range of activities throughout the day.

Much like Three of Cups Teahouse – already known for its crafty, creative events – this isn’t just a shopping experience. Visitors can get hands-on with activities like patch-making and sip-and-stitch workshops, with all proceeds going towards gender-affirming care.

Of course, an event like this doesn’t come together without generous donations. Organisers are encouraging people to drop off clothing at Three of Cups Teahouse in the lead-up to the event, in exchange for credit to spend on Thrift Fest day. A win-win, really.

If you’ve got a wardrobe full of clothes you’ve been meaning to donate, a keen eye for thrifted treasures, or simply want a weekend activity to keep your hands busy, mark Sunday 28th June in the calendar.
