Urban Climb unveils two-storey climbing oasis in the heart of Adelaide

Hindley Street will welcome Urban Climb later this year, boasting a mega two-storey climbing wall.

A brand spanking new multi million dollar indoor climbing location will open in the CBD later this year after stellar success in the eastern states.

Urban Climb is will open its first venue in Adelaide and judging by its other sites, it will be the talk of the town. The multi level venue will be 2500sqm with seven bouldering walls. The gym will also host a range of study spaces, a coffee shop and long with a retail, pro-shop. The space will fill the void of the former Event Cinemas GU Film house on Hindley Street.

“It’s somewhat of our most ambitious project just in terms of the structure of the gym,” a spokesperson for Urban Climb said.

“It allows climbers a lot more opportunities to move throughout the space in a more exploratory way which is how you would naturally experience climbing outside.

“There will be plenty of bouldering for everyone’s desires.”

Once they settle into the space, phase two of the move in will see a yoga space and another retail store available for those looking to stretch either before or after their climb.

The company will look to entice a younger crowd, given the proximity to the universities and student accommodation but given its central location for all, any keen rock climbing, adrenaline loving athletes will be able to try their hand at the walls.

“If people need to complete some work in between their climbs, we will have designated spaces where people can either study or work,” said the spokesperson.

With 6 locations already open across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, the venue offers a lot more than a single climb. Urban Climb offers a number of events such as ‘Sister Sessions’ which celebrates all the female climbers out there, they also host a number of social meets no matter where you are up to on your climbing journey. If you are new to the climbing scene don’t stress, there will be fundamental courses and private coaching is available to help you find your feet (quite literally) once they settle into the space.

The venue is open to those 13+ for anyone seeking a thrill. Those under 13 though will have may have to wait to see if they can attend the climb. At their eastern state locations, the youngsters enjoy rope climbing however, it is yet to be confirmed if this will be available at the Adelaide location. There are also youth programs available for young athletes to explore world of rock climbing in a fun, supervised and structured environment.

This is just one of the many new fitness spaces set to open across the city this year. Earlier this month, plans progressed for the $20m multi-sports and entertainment arena in Elizabeth, which hopes to open it’s doors by mid-2024. Another ice arena has also been floated for Adelaide’s south, as the planning had entered its final stages last August.

A new trampoline park is also slated for the state, taking over 2,946 square meters of the old Holden factory, offering various activities such as trampoline arenas, foam pits, parkour courses, and climbing walls.

Adelaide has been known as the City of Churches, but will it soon be known as the city of fitness?
