Rowland Flat’s St Hugo and Grant Burge Wines are inviting guests to go beyond the usual cellar door tasting with Legends of the Vines. This premium new experience explores the history, personalities and craftsmanship behind two of Australia’s most respected wine labels. Hosted at the St Hugo & Grant Burge Wines cellar door, the immersive tasting combines history, storytelling and award-winning wines into a one-and-a-half-hour journey through the Barossa.
Available from Friday to Monday, the experience begins at 10:30am with a guided walk through the stunning Barossa estate. Guests are joined by an experienced wine host to stroll beneath the property’s cork tree-lined driveway and across the grounds while learning about the joint histories of Grant Burge and St Hugo, their pioneering beginnings and their places as leading Australian wine producers.
The experience then heads into the exclusive Hugo Gramp Room Cellar. This intimate private space is lined floor-to-ceiling with current releases, back vintages and flagship wines from both brands. Here, guests are treated to the Legends of the Vines Icon Tasting, a personalised guided flight showcasing some of the wineries’ most prestigious labels.
Some of the wines on the list include Grant Burge’s acclaimed Meshach Shiraz and Shadrach Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside St Hugo’s renowned Flagship Vetus Purum Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. The tasting concludes with a pour of St Hugo’s 1970 Tawny.
To complement the wines, guests are also served a selection of small plates from the St Hugo kitchen.
“It’s one of my favourite experiences,” shared Assistant Brand Home Manager Jodie Kurtz. “We indulge deeply into the history of the two brand homes, including a lot of backstories into the how, the why and the who of the two names behind the brands. We delve quite deeply into the making of each wine, and what makes them unique to each brand.”
Situated onsite at St Hugo and Grant Burge is the charming Jacob’s Cottage Estate, offering stylish, contemporary accommodation for up to 6 people. An original 19th-century Barossa settler’s cottage, the property has been beautifully restored and offers three bedrooms and two gorgeous bathrooms. It is surrounded by wide verandahs, beautiful gardens, and has an alfresco dining area and is within walking distance to St Hugo and Grant Burge, making it a perfect place for a weekend getaway, that can be combined with the premium Legend of the Vines experience.

Born in the Barossa, St Hugo honours the legacy of Barossa winemaking legend Hugo Gramp. The grandson of pioneering vigneron Johann Gramp, who founded the Gramp & Sons winery in 1847, Hugo led the winery through a period of unparalleled growth from 1920 to 1938. Hugo inspired his own son Colin, who went on to revolutionise the Australian wine industry and launch St Hugo to honour his father. Since the first vintage of 1980, St Hugo has crafted wines renowned for their balance of power and elegance.
Grant Burge Wines traces its roots back to the heart of the Barossa Valley, where the Burge family’s winemaking story began more than 150 years ago. After arriving in the region in the 1800s, five generations of the family have dedicated themselves to viticulture, with Meshach Burge laying the foundations for what would become one of South Australia’s most recognised wine names. In 1865, driven by a passion for grape growing and winemaking, Meshach installed fermenting tanks in a shed on his property to create wines to share with family and friends, a simple act of generosity that would grow into the Grant Burge legacy. Today, that same ethos continues through a commitment to crafting generous, expressive wines designed to bring people together.
