Adelaide Frontrunners is the LGBTQI+ club running to make positive change

Using jogging and walking as their vehicle, the group is hoping to advocate for bettering both mental and physical health through exercise.

Who doesn’t love a bit of awareness and inclusivity combined with exercise? I know we do!

Adelaide Frontrunners is the non-competitive, all-inclusive community running/walking group that started two months ago as a way to improve community LGBTIQ+ awareness and inclusivity. Using jogging and walking as their vehicle, the group is hoping to advocate for bettering both mental and physical health through exercise.

Running on Kaurna land, the events are open to everyone – regardless of age, ability, sexual orientation, or gender identity – with their LGBTIQ+ ally November calendar filled with an array of fun activities that is sure to get your blood pumping. Even if running isn’t your thing, the group is open to all and is a great way to get outside and enjoy the impending summer sunshine.

“Suicide rates are the highest amongst the LGBTIQ+ community, so if one new friend from Adelaide Frontrunners can help someone’s state of mind, we’re happy,” says Frontrunners.

The group’s moniker pays homage to the iconic Australian novel The Front Runner by Patricia Nell Warren, whose story follows the romance between a star athlete and his running coach.

The group strives to connect Adelaidians with like-minded individuals through running while fostering an inclusive community that celebrates the joy and benefits of exercise.

“Through an inclusive community of the frontrunners, people can build in confidence, share running routes and tips, training plans, discuss upcoming races and events, socialise, make some friends along the way and build their confidence in running and fitness,” says the pages Facebook.

The Adelaide Frontrunners website will be coming soon and will have merchandise to purchase with all proceeds going to the LGBTIQ+ Health Australia Charity. The Adelaide community is part of the larger Front Runners network, which first began running in San Francisco in 1974. Now, people all over the world are running with the Front Runners, fostering a vibrant community that celebrates diversity internationally.
